Sharpton to Meet Trayvon Martin’s Family

Rev. Al Sharpton will travel to Sanford, Florida, this week to meet with the family of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old shot by a Neighborhood Watch volunteer last week. “You hear a shot, a clear shot, then you hear a 17-year-old boy begging for his life,” said a lawyer for Martin’s family on Friday. Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old volunteer with the neighborhood crime watch, two weeks ago. Zimmerman has claimed he shot Martin in self-defense, and has not been charged with any crime. In one 911 call before the shooting, Zimmerman said there was a suspicious person in his gated community who looked “like he’s up to no good, like he’s on drugs or something.” A call placed by another man moments later reported that a black youth seemed to have been shot and killed after a struggle.

Black families accept Al Sharpton's help because he has a ton of media on his side. He helped Amadou Diallo's family get those millions, same with Abner Louima after the cop violated him. Without Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, a lot of Black families who wanted justice would have never gotten it. Al Sharpton is a hero in my eyes, and the hate against him and Jesse is unwarranted. At least he's speaking up, why hasn't Obama said anything about this case yet? AH YEAH I FORGOT, he's scared of what white people might think ROFL.....I know he has more responsibility than Al and Jesse, but we need intense spotlight to get justice. I'd rather Zimmerman be shot and killed, but for now......

At least Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson don't give a fuck what crackas think. They're not perfect, but they keep the spotlight on an injustice better than anyone can. We should stop with the Sharpton and Jesse Jackson hate. They've done a lot of good for the community, and Obama calls Al Sharpton as much as any other Black leader. There's a reason for that.

Everything they take part in turns into a media circus. Their intentions are purely self serving, and when they attach their names to a cause it's automatically cheapened. They're bottom feeders who profit off of the tragedies of others just to keep their names in the news.

This case is getting enough attention without their assistance. I'm still baffled at the "why hasn't Obama said anything" comments.....like he's supposed to be the crusader for Black injustice just because he's Black....lol.

It's ideal but it's not realistic, he's not an activist and it's not his place to speak out every time he feel a Black person has been wronged.

Yeah I don't like a lot of things Al Sharpton does (like criticizing rappers for things when in reality he should be criticizing society, rappers just paint a portrait of their reality). But in general, Al Sharpton isn't afraid to stand up for Black people when crackas and pigs mistreat our people, so I'm always going to honor him overall. Jesse stands up for people in poverty and he has done many community events to help the less fortunate, so he gets some respect from me too. The case is getting lots of media attention now, and as far as I'm concerned, the more the better. If street justice isn't going to be done (As I would prefer), than let media pressure make the cops arrest Zimmerman and charge him with murder.

Only a white man in this country can shoot someone to death, for no reason and after being told to stand down, and still get away with it for this long. If this case has done anything good, it's letting the world see that a "post-racial" America is all bullshit. Race matters, and it matters a great deal. I'll bring this case up next time some naive motherfucka tells me race doesn't matter anymore.
