People are acting like New Day is out there on their Cryme Tyme shit.
Creative didn't give them anything other than the original preaching gimmick which they've never even acknowledged on air outside of their entrance video.
Clapping. They've stated they came up with that on their own.
Being extra happy and hammy? They've also stated that they came up with that on their own in hopes they could sabotage their positioning as faces, which they were able to accomplish. They've also made mention of their degrees numerous times while under the New Day gimmick. Dudes really in here saying they're less offended by a fake Jamaican gimmick.
It's not that what you're saying isn't logical. It's that you aren't speaking from a fact based position. You see some niggas laughing and having a good time and assume it's because creative has them cooning.
You have to have the facts of the situation backing you if you're just going to go off ranting & raving.
I'm not saying they're Cryme Tyme (more strawman) I'm saying that they are are out there playing stereotypes, smiling and buck dancing, they're supposed to be an hybrid preaching/church/gospel/motivational team. Them taking it and making it work proves how talented they are similar to Sandow. But that whole clapping and happy shit has been given to black wrestlers in the past. I highly doubt they came up with it on their own and even if that was the case it has to be approved by the old white man first, the WWE is too attention to detail driven to just allow off the cuff shit.
As for Kofi's Jamaican gimmick it wasn't the gimmick that I found "less offensive" it was the fact that Kofi was upper mid card/main eventing which always trumps being in a mid card tag team.
What part of I only deal in facts didn't you understand. Don't say recalling Cryme Tyme is straw man tactics within a sentence of recalling what WWE has done in the past to other black talent. Talk about a hypocrite. The point is fuck the feelings, your preconceived notions and deal in facts.
Fact is that what you saw on TV is absolutely nothing like what creative intended New Day to be. Don't tell me what you highly doubt when: 1) You haven't watched the show in months. 2) It came out of their own mouths 3) We've watched the characters drastically evolve since WM.
If you watch some of their outside interviews and on the road stuff you'd see that their characters aren't too far removed from how they are in their personals. They've been constantly repeating how thankful they are for being able to have their characters reflect some of their own personalities. They specifically spoke about the phone call they had with each other where they came up with their attires. They specifically spoke about the meeting they had with one another where they were trying to come up with something the crowd could latch onto and ended up with the New Day Rocks clap which morphed into New Day Sucks.
So fuck all the "assumptions" flying around. Now if you think what they're doing is cooning then that's something for you to deal with inside yourself. Fact remains these guys got themselves over to the point where cats in other promotions are heiling them as the hottest thing currently going in pro wrestling. Week after week for months now they're getting the biggest pops of the show and have been putting on high quality matches while doing it.
One moment it's, "the black talent is too angry."
Next moment it's, "the black talent is too happy."
Just stfu and enjoy the show for once. R-Truth is and was closer to coon than what New Day is doing.
