cmon hrap..... the word soul was not created by african americans for african americans... thats about the dumbest thing ive ever heard.... i agree with the examples you stated having to do with african americans..... but the word itself has no racial origin... and white people can have soulful music... look up the word soulful in the dictionary..... now attach the to music.... im not saying "soul music" im saying soulful music as in an adjective to describe a characteristic of someones music....

as for the t/s i agree with you in regards to eminem's music... he really puts all of his emotions out there and his music in turn provokes multiple emotions from listeners... while agreeing with u on that, i also have to agree with some of the posters, you are kinda on his dick hard lol

I dont care about etymology or the root of a word, Im speaking on how the term has been used for generations in my community amongst my people.

I can only speak on the context of the word not its creation, or the other definitions that the word falls under.

The context of the word when used in reference to art, food, style, or speech has a racial origin that can be validated by thorough research.

The correct term used in reference to a white artist who mimics SOUL is called a "Blue eyed Soul artist", this distinction was made because there
are many people who lack the comprehension skills and intellect to discern the difference.

I enjoy Soul music and Neo-Soul, these genres contain some of the most talented and brilliant African American musicians on the planet,
I dont listen to Death-Metal because it has no SOUL, it lacks the gospel-tinged harmonies and melodic rhythms that African Americans create with their voices and instruments.

SOUL is ours, you cant steal it, you can only imitate it, Emenim has ZERO SOUL, his voice, and lyrics dont have anything remotley resmbling Soulfulness.

I am speaking from personal experience as a member of the Afrikan Amerikan community and the music community.

Given we as a people did not make the english language and the context in which soul is being Used Brother H-rap has given a perfect breakdown...

i agreed with you on the fact that soul music was orignated and is practically 100% black music..... im saying that an artist could be soulful w/o being black because its not soul music.... its the act of being soulful which is not limited to black people..... soul food= black..... soul music= black.... being soulful= every race..... that is my point.... i actually did agree with most of your post.....just not the part that said black people are the only ones that portray soul in their art or general lifestyle...

Eminem's music has no soul.

it has more soul than about 75% of mainstream rap. Look at the shitty performances at the bet awards and look how much energy em gave compaired to allot of those clowns that performed/lip rapped. Obviously hes doesn't have as much soul as the roots but you cant tell me all that bubblegum teach me how to dougie, or wacka fucking LAME's "hard in the paint" has more soul than eminiem.

Em is talented... but he's always come across as a joke

.......I think I just realised something.

I have a feeling....that the people who talk shit bout Em on this site, haven't actually sat down and listened, really listened to the majority of his music....

*shrugs*

Ignorance is bliss right?

It's not that Eminem is talented or he's soulless or whatever.

I just don't understand when you actually say other MCs don't have this ability at all.

Have you listened to early Ja Rule?

Jay-Z's Song Cry, Soon You'll Understand, or Minority Report

Xzibit's Thank You

Dmx - too many songs to mention

Furthermore, it sounds like this singing thing you place so much emphasis on is a perference (you are aware his vocals are double and triple layered when he's singing, right?)

There was no Slim Shady persona on those Album's it was all Marshall Mathers and those were Eminem's most emotional and personal Album's where he was connecting with his listeners i think we can agree they were very deep

But on The Slim Shady LP & The Marshall Mathers LP even though you could see the Slim Shady persona and the entertainment value you also had it blended wiuth the deep and personal Song's like on The Slim Shady LP you had My Name Is but you also had Song's like If I Had and on The Marshall Mathers LP you had Song's like I'm Back you you also had Song's like The WAy I Am

So the question is do you think Eminem in future will use the Eminem Show , 8 mile Soundtrack & Rcovery Album format where pretty much every Song is deep or has meaning with emotion or will he in future mix up with his Slim Shady alter ego like he did on The Slim Shady LP & The Marshall Mathers LP?

I hope Eminem sticks to the Recovery format, cuz I truly believe he dropped the best album I've heard since American Gangster.

Recovery is a masterpiece, easily the best album of the year.....and it's a classic for sure. I love the emotion and topics he had on the album, only Jay-Z dropped a better album these past 3 years.

I wish more albums were deep like this one.....most rap albums are about the same bullshit topics (money, cash, hoes) but Recovery is really deep. It's the kind of album 50 should have made last year, but Em proves every year why he's going down in hip-hop history as an all time legend.

He solidified his place in hip-hop history with Recovery, real talk. Anyone dissing his talent now is an idiot in my eyes, period.
