If Feds giving additional funds, I'm for it, most of those schools don't have large endowments.
I can get down with this request
"HBCU leaders have asked the Trump administration to include an aspirational funding goal. They want HBCUs to be awarded 5 percent of total federal grant, internship and cooperative agreement funding and 10 percent of all federal contract funding to colleges and universities. They say that doing so would nearly double federal support to the HBCU sector."
We need something tangible. Politicians love placating black people with HBCU. Foh. Not denying that they don't need support. But for me to truly believe they are sincere they should start by doing stuff for black people that can actually help us. Not all black people attend school.
I agree with you. Politicians as a whole, past and present, have needed/need to do more to actually help us. Me arguing on the HBCU's behalf, though: Money or currency is tangible. If they're talking dollars, then these HBCU's need to listen. Giving money to HBCU's helps us, because a lot of these HBCU's give opportunities to blacks when other PWI's won't. While there's many of us who don't go to school, there's also a ton of us who do, and some type of aide to HBCU's helps those of us who go to school, and indirectly it can help those that don't as well, as it can put some of us in positions to hire those that did and didn't go to school. For example, I'm in a position now, where I'm looking for two co-ops to work under me, and if they do a good job, I will hire them full time. I'm going back to my HBCU to get them co-ops. There's also a few positions on the work floor that need filling, and these positions don't necessarily require you to go to school. I'm going to the community to help fill those positions.
I'm not against helping HBCU's. It looks disingenuous when they neglect black issues but are always quick to use HBCU's as a prop.
They're getting ready to target black people with Sessions so called vow to be tough on crime. So to placate black people, "let's do a photo op with some blacks so they can't say we don't try to do anything for blacks" niggas better not fall for that con.
Putting an EO in place to help HBCUs isn't a photo op though, that order was signed today. In all seriousness, why is it everytime something positive for us happens......media personalities immediately start throwing water on it? Doesn't happen with any other group. We can't meet, talk, or work with the WH without the "don't fall for it" meme.
As if any of the past WH admins gave a shit about us. MLK worked with Nixon, JK, and LBJ for a reason, to get shit done. This shit is professional, not personal. The president needs to broaden his base, ok...so lets see him come through for things. Far better than just sitting back, throwing our hands up which is what many seem to want. I want all these politicians pandering to us and trying to work for our support. We hold the keys to every damn election.
EDIT: Oh and SMH at "They're getting ready to target black people". Like that isn't already happening. Haven't we had the worst stretch with this shit the last 4 years or so, but NOW they'e gonna start targetting us? lol. Not really directed at you 5th, just ranting a bit.
Because we have bigger fish to fry in black society than HBCU funding. That's like replacing the car radio while driving on a donut. We can get to the HBCU once bigger issues are addressed. Not to mention while they're signing off on policy's to harm black people, they're doing this to distract us from that. No coincidence there.
No question about it black people been targets long before Trump, just saying though.
Of course we have bigger fish, but that doesn't mean we can't deal with the smaller things too. For the last 50 years, what has either party come through on....I'm drawing a blank. Again, make these politicians pander to us, we should be demanding just as much as every other group.

I can buy the HBCU thing if I actually saw real tangible things come from politicians about it. All I see is it being used as a prop to placate black people. The resources they're using to harm black people could be used to greatly help and improve our situation.

An executive order was signed to help HBCUs, that's a tangible thing. And again, the Dream Act would only effect a certain number of Latinos, but you wouldn't see them balking at it getting passed.
As for resources, that's mostly a local issue. There's only so much any president from Obama to Trump to Clinton, etc, can do. It's the mayors, sheriffs, governors, etc. who have the biggest impact. the problem for us is that one party has like 90% leadership positions in our comunites and we put zero pressure on them. Like Rahm in Chi, for example. Yet another why we should be Independent.

I gotta disagree. It's not relatively important but the hypocrisy is worth noting. Shouldn't, and likely isn't, being prioritized into a forefront issue, but not some shit to be ignored.
And definitely not below something that should be allowed to be discussed on a message board, where "Who would eat.." threads get posted.
