I don't think that's what's going on. I think t hey are there because they are basically debriefing Stan Lee's character. Now they may be on doing that because Thanos is on the move and the Watchers know shit is about to go down, but I don't think that's the explicit reason behind that scene.

In the comic he gets his ass kicked by Thanos many times. Even when he gets his power boosted he still takes a L.

Also fun fact........Drax (in the comics) is a human and Thanos kills his wife and *daughter just for riding down the the street in their car just because.

that's the retconned drax. ^the original was some kind of super android or something.

*Drax gets killed but his daughter survives the attack and will later grow up to become Moondragon
