Marvel Studios President Says Inhumans Film Likely to be Delayed Again

inhumans-114936.jpg

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige did some press at the Captain America: Civil War junket this weekend, and he finally addressed one particular elephant in the room: that pesky Inhumans release date. While acknowledging that the movie is very likely to shift away from its current July 12, 2019 date (itself the second date for the film, initially announced for November 2, 2018), he did double down that it's at least still on the docket.

"Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big, joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big, fun continuation of that story for us," Feige told Collider. "Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it's on right now. How far down it shuffles, I'm not sure yet."

When followed up about the conflict with the TV interpretation of the Inhumans on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., he said that won't prevent them from making their big screen take, saying "It's a question of when."

For regular readers, this is exactly what we predicted at Comicbook.com a month ago when Indiana Jones 5 was announced for July 19, 2019, one week after Inhumans' planned date. With both films being produced and distributed by Disney, and their history showing they've never released films closer than three weeks apart, it was a no-brainer that Inhumans wouldn't be coming out on that original release date.

It is new, however, for Feige to openly address it, and assure fans of Black Bolt, Medusa, and the rest of the Inhumans royal family that they're still hitting the silver screen... just not on July 12, 2019.

Spider-Man and Black Panther Details Revealed In New Captain America: Civil War Official Bios

With the press junket and official LA premiere for Captain America: Civil War comes a host of new information delivered officially by Disney. With new detailed character (and costume) descriptions released, Disney and Marvel Studios have given fans a new look at the characters involved in the fight, including one Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

"Recruited personally by Tony Stark, teenager Peter Parker aka Spider-Man brings his youthful energy and exceptional — though not totally mastered — skills to Iron Man’s team."

Not much that's brand new there, though it is a nice official confirmation that Tony Stark personally recruits the newest Marvel Studios hero.

The other newcomer, Black Panther, also on Team Iron Man, also has a major revelation in the new character descriptions. T'Challa, the Black Panther, actually gets involved because his father, T'Chaka, King of Wakanda, is pro-government regulation of heroes. There's also a "deeply personal" part to the story that thankfully, they don't spoil.

Director Ryan Coogler Now Co-Writing Black Panther

When Ryan Coogler was hired to direct Black Panther, many speculated that he, typically a writer-director, would want a crack at the script. Well, that's exactly what's happening, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said.

"We have a number of writers on it, including Ryan Coogler, who is also directing," Feige told Collider. "He's working on the draft right now."

The script update isn't all he had to say about the film, after early critical response has pointed out that Chadwick Boseman's character is a standout in Captain America: Civil War, where Black Panther debuts.

"Between now and the end of the summer there will be more casting announcements," the studio president revealed. He also said they shooting schedule is at early 2017. "We start filming at the very beginning of next year."

According to Deadline Tessa Thompson (Creed, Selma, Annihilation) has joined the cast of Thor: Ragnarok in an unannounced superhero role. What's interesting is that it's being said that she will be a new love interest (Poor Jane) for Thor and will be "a kind of superhero that will appear in other Marvel films as well."

Could her role possibly be Valkyrie? We'll have to wait and see when it's announced.

Natalie Portman May Not Be Returning As Jane Foster

In an interesting turn of events, it looks as though Natalie Portman will not be returning as Jane Foster in Thor: Ragnarok. During their reveal of Tessa Thompson being cast, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Natalie Portman will not be returning to the franchise. Natalie Portman finally gets her wish of being out of the franchise. It also makes sense as it's been said that Ragnarok will mostly be set in space and on Asgard.

Without Jane being in the film does that mean we won't have Darcy either? We'll just have to wait and find out.

Tessa as Valkyrie would be a good look but shes not a thor love interest so it has to be Enchantress. Either way black excellence

I'm happy af Jane's gone. I love looking at Natalie Portman but not when she's fully clothed for the entire film. Her character, and her friend character were stupid and one of the worst parts of the first thors. Hopefully they finally make a dope thor movie without them bitches.

lol I really dont see the point of this movie if it doesnt drop before IW to introduce them into the movie. They better off having Black Bolt and the royal family in Guardians 2 and Captain Marvel since they both tie in with the Kree

Hell no. Keep white characters white and just use black characters that are underused for a change.

She'd be perfect for Monica Rambeau (the Captain Marvel in Marvel Comics that I grew up with) for example, like really perfect.

Plus that would give hope that she'd be the star of the Captain Marvel movie and not wack ass Carol Danvers.

That would also be a good look for Marvel Studios and differentiate it enough from say Wonder Woman by having the first urban black female superhero headlining any of these movies. If she's playing a Thor character it would be a real waste.

That would be smart, but the GotG director is against tying his movies to any other MCU properties.

I wish more MCU directors adopted that philosophy.

Wrong. They just announced Star Lord will be in the upcoming Avengers filmshttp://m.ign.com/articles/2016/04/11/guardians-of-the-galaxys-star-lord-will-be-in-marvels-avengers-infinity-war

And?

James Gunn doesn't direct The Avengers.

If GoTG 2 was to have Hulk and Thor all over the place while also setting up a Black Widow solo movie then you'd have a point.

My point is if it does it won't be while James Gunn directs. Marvel Studios respects him enough to give him his space and grant him that creative wish. I think they also learned a lot from the Whedon experience.
