I don't get why everyone thinks that the MMLP was Em's classic album. It was good, but is it because it was his album that catapulted him to a hip hop household name? I don't think that can make for a classic, anyone can break down a door with an album but it not be considered a classic.
The Eminem Show, so far, has been his only real hip hop album. Opening it up from White America, being able to say, "Yeah, I realize I'm white and I'm different and blacks may not be able to relate, but I'm still gonna do it" was ballsy. He stated the obvious but it came from his mouth, not someone elses.
Cleanin' out my Closet wasn't your usual, oh kill my mother, it's her fault type of deal. It was the more serious, like okay, here it is raw type of deal.
Say Goodbye to Hollywood, his goodbye ode to hip hop was amazing. Even though he didn't "leave", he wanted to. A feeling anyone in hip hop can relate to. The hard work, the troubles etc etc.
Till I Collpase, "..spilling my heart through this pen.." is exactly what he did the whole album.
This album was very mature for an Eminem album. A breath of fresh air. A slight bit lyrically lighter, but still not taking away from himself.
TES is by far his best album, imo, taking up a 10/10 if not, 9.5/10 rated album.
For those who cannot agree, I don't see why. This album has everything that was complained about that wasn't on albums such as Relapse or Encore. If you can deny this album, then you're simply a hater. You don't have to love it, but at least see it as classic or even CLOSE to a classic Eminem album.
