Man I was on the verge of being a Wayne stan til after Dediciation 2 dropped in summer 06. That was his last RAW body of work in my opinion. I mean I still check for him here and there and he might have a couple gems every now and then but it's few and far between now...but I don't ever remember seeing an artist fall off so quick musically.

Yall gotta understand that the mainstream audience is mad fickle. Even for Wayne. Unless he goes the Jay-Z route, there's no way he'll be "at the top" for another 5-10 years. It's choices and decisions you gotta make as an artist. You can accept your time is up and not compromise your art/quality and keep a solid but smaller fan base (basically become a mid-card artist), do what Jay-Z did (and try to use your status along with riding every trend), or just fall the fuck off in all facets. Wayne already gave up on his quality.

But hey, maybe being sober now will help. But I admit, I'll probably lose all hope for Wayne if Carter IV ain't at least a 3.5/5. Carter III was subpar to me.

Nigga you summed up my exact feelings bout this subject. Was listening to this nigga since I heard "50 shots set it off" off Get It How You Live, before fucking HS. Had every album them niggas dropped. Even Big Tymers shit. Then he started dropping them Sqad tapes, and you could see the improvement in the flow, albeit heavily east coast influenced, the nigga was spittin. Shit like "Best of Me", "Murder This Shit", "Renegades". Shit even the Droughts 1 & 2 were sick. Then D1 dropped & I was convinced the nigga was on that path so few (Jay, Em, Big, Pac)have walked on. Greatness. I was passing it all my niggas, cuz believe it or not, there was a time when only old CMR heads (from the late 90's) were still checking for Wayne.

I was a stan. No if's, and's, but's about it. Then he started this singing and shit. I said, he just trying some new shit, it just aint for me. But then when I would hear him rapping the quality of the lyrics just werent there anymore. Too many punchlines that miss. Too many that are just plain corny. A Milli is the closet I have heard the nigga gettin back to the level from the early - mid 2000's.

Yep, I had all the Wayne albums starting with Tha Block Is Hot... Guerilla Warfare.. all that.. of course B.G., Juvie, Big Tymers releases... and when the Squad Up tapes started dropping it got serious. Droughts 1 and 2.. Prefix, Suffix, Dedication 1 & 2.. Tha Carter 1 & 2 damn near classic. Then he came out with LilWeezyana and Drought 3.. don't get me wrong, they were still hot (especially compared to his recent shit) but they weren't on the same level to me. And for some reason this is when he really started gettin popular. And he started doin mad features.. Fuckin with Dipset hard.. all that.

When we started getting C3 leaks like "Prostitute Flange" and "I Feel Like Dying" I was like what the fuck is this shit?? Wayne don't even have a singing voice to be doing this. But the people I was around ate the shit up... And we all know the story after that.

Oh yeah... that Dedication 3 bullshit almost pissed me off more than C3. How could you fuck up a classic mixtape series like that?? Shit was terrible outside of maybe 2 or 3 songs.

It might not be over yet 4 wayne but da nigga needs to redefine his self ASAP. That nigga needs to lose all da generic punchlines and shit, and put some bass in his voice. The problem with wayne is that da nigga is just fucking irritating imo

Don't ask me why but that is one of my favorite songs. I love the mood of that damn song for song reason. And i'm not suicidal

Wayne cant make a song to save his life and thats probably because the nigga never wrote his own shit. When he started writing his own shit thats when he got on that freestyling shit, so I believe the nigga relies heavily on slick verses and clever lines but shit can only take u so far. I think drake is more musically inclined and creative than wayne, matter of fact, drake will probably surpass wayne in a hot sec. yea, fake blooding and kissing niggas dont help when it comes to niggas taking him seriously. Wayne was da hardest when he was doing da Squad mixtapes imo

dead@niggas comparing wayne to jay

i'm quick to call out hov on his antics, however one thing hov has got is a fanbase which respects his music, we talking niggas from all age ranges

wayne fanbase is full of teenage girls and teenage kids, who will grow out of his music the same way many grew out of 50cent, nelly, ja rule, etc...

niggas can qoute jay songs, even non fans.....i cant quote lil wanye song

also jay makes people wait for his music, no over saturation, or over exposure and also jay has a superstar wife, which also keeps him in the limelight.

The hood dudes who used to listen to Wayne moved on to Ross, Gucci, etc..
The every day dude who used to listen to Wayne moved on to J. Cole, Drake, etc..

Sure, he probably has some of his old fans. But I'm talking about his core fan base right now.

Ima stop you right there bro...

Have you noticed how small and insular the hip hop recording community?Nearly everyone you named that have "taken Wayne's fanbase" have songs with Wayne. Big songs at that. It is nearly impossible to be fans of them without being a fan of Wayne whether your a diehard Wayne stan or a casual listener. And that's whats going to keep Wayne relevant. He's cast such a large shadow on the game that he, for a long time in the future, is always going to be able to get the top producers and be with the top artists and vice versa.

Drake has a strong chance of surpassing Wayne but shit, I think Wayne could live with a Kanye West/Hov (the student surpassing the master in terms of status) relationship with Drake. And as previously stated, THEIR AUDIENCES ARE SO INTERTWINED its not like Drake can catch a market Wayne can't.

But in terms of quality? In terms of being a legit MC that has bars for days and content? Yeah he's been shit ever since Dedication 2 as Buttuh B said.

Wayne been in da game since 10-11 years old. His longevity could be his downfall musically, but I respect Cash Money's hustle and business model

No...his time will be up when he retires...dude gives the people way too much music and has stayed as the front runner of hip hop for some time now..

The only reason Wayne gets criticized way more than Jay-Z is becuz of how much music there is to judge Wayne on and he admittedly has a lot of throwaway tracks..but he spit out 10x the amount of tracks anyone else has...so name one person where every last one of their songs have been flawless...u can't...I don't take nothing from Jay...but Jay went the business route and branded his name so even when he's not making good music, the shit will sell...Wayne went the hungry artist route and gave people a lot of music(which people still complain about..but u can't win em all i guess)

Wayne is on 3 or 4 singles on the radio:

Chris Brown - Look at me now
6'7
That Kelly Rowland song

It's impossible to go to a club or bar without hearing one of his songs...I don't think he's done by a longshot...

like i said i give him a year, i think his next record will do good numbers, den after that it'll all be downhill

dont matter who he's collabin with, fat joe can make as many songs with drake aint no one coppin a fat joe cd....

lil wayne has crossed over into pop territory, which is the worst fanbase u can have cuz they have no loyalty...

them white people are quick to get sick of a negro i.e see 50cent, ja rule, wyclef, nelly, etc...

i speak as a nigga who use to listen to Wayne,

Nigga when I heard D3 was dropping I was ready to forget all the wrongs from the nigga. Its like 2 songs I can stomach off that shit. He killed the whole series with that one mixtape.

Any progress has diminished. The nigga gettin $$, but at the sacrifice of his hardcore fans. And thats cool cuz I wont buy any new shit, but when I see cats like Em and Jay STILL on that level after so long, and STILL having that hunger after making more $ than they can spend, it makes me wonder if dude lost that shit years ago.

He has made a killing off talking about nothing, not viewed as the best when you really measure their talent to their peers but has some how manage to tap into mainstream America. When you measure them against their peers (Chris Rock, Chapelle, etc) (Kanye, Luda,TI,etc) they don't aren't really in the same class if we are being honest.
