Didn't DBZ get cancelled in between those times too? I remember being younger and the series always ended after Frieza and the Namekian Saga. Then out of nowhere comes the Androids and the animation starts changing.

The gaps was due to funimation. For some reason it took them a while to do edits/voiceovers, and they always waited a while before releasing them on TV, because funimation always released them on VHS first, and they wanted them to sale.
