Yes and after achieving Super Saiyan he wanted to put on Piccolo's clothes, you're right that the Kamehameha defeated Cell and that he fucked Buu up in his father's clothing but it was Piccolo that taught Gohan about fighting, not Goku. The bond that Piccolo and Gohan had was greater than the bond he had with his own father.
