Jason Fuchs Teases Lobo Movie

trejo-lobo-166620.jpg

Wonder Woman screenwriter Jason Fuchs may be sticking around the DC Films world after the 2017 film debuts but the project may come as a surprise to many. The screenwriter is now teasing involvement in a possible Lobo movie.

Fuchs is turning through the pages of the four issue Portraits of a Bastich story and taking to Instagram to let the fans know. Naturally, the speculation has spiked with fans hungry for a Lobo film.

Reports surfaced earlier this year of Fuchs being tapped to write a Lobo film for Warner Brothers but the talk has been quiet since. As a writer, Fuchs' other credits include Luna Park, Pan, and Ice Age: Continental Drift.

Lobo is a popular anti-hero for DC, created in 1983 by Keith Giffen and Roger Silfer. While initially portrayed as a straight villain, Lobo became popular in the 1990s when Giffen reinvented the character as a parody of violent characters like Wolverine and the Punisher. Lobo became known for his ultra-violent methods, with unexpected victims like Santa Claus or comics convention attendees. In the New 52, Lobo was reinvented as a more svelte and attractive character to mixed reaction.

WB began development of a Lobo movie in 2009, with Guy Ritchie originally attached to direct. At one point, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was in talks to play the intergalactic bounty hunter, although he eventually moved from the project to play Black Adam in a planned Shazam film. Machete actor Danny Trejo recently tweeted his interest in playing Lobo, although there were no confirmed reports that WB ever approached him to play the character.

Aquaman Director James Wan Says He's Working Very Closely With Geoff Johns

aquaman-jameswan-181184.png

Noted Aquaman fan (and former Aquaman comic book writer) Geoff Johns has recently taken a more active role in developing DC Entertainment's film slate.

So with Aquaman director James Wan doing a handful of recent interviews in which he's being quizzed about the DC Extended Universe -- and with reports of Warner Bros. reworking their DC management team, that's a natural place to go.

According to Wan, though, the management shift hasn't been all that significant -- and the most significant part of it, Johns's increased role, plays into Wan's interest in the film.

"To be honest, it’s not as dramatic as the press is making it out to be – from what I’m seeing," Wan told CinemaBlend. "And right now I’m seeing everything as more an outsider looking into this box. So from that perspective, it’s really cool that it’s not crazy, crazy dramatic. I think it’s great. Geoff Johns is super talented, super smart. Part of what got me excited about the Aquaman character is his re-envisioning of Aquaman, the character, with The New 52. And that’s super exciting. And I’m working very closely with him, and I want to work with him very closely to shape the story that I want to tell."

Johns has been pretty excited to see the character heading to the big screen, too. When we caught up with Johns at the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice premiere, we asked him how big it was for him to finally see a big-screen Aquaman.

"It’s massive," Johns enthused. "Jason [Momoa] and I were talking about Aquaman and I love that people underestimate the character. I feel like hopefully we’ll be able to share the love that we have as readers of the character because the jokes about him are fun, but he’s got so much depth to him, no pun intended. It’s really great to see him finally on the big screen."

Aquaman is due in theaters in 2018, with the character showing up in next year's Justice League film.

More Warner Bros. Shakeups Rumored Because Of Batman V Superman

bvs-batman-184763.jpg

The next six months could see more management shakeups at Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment, following a disappointing box office year in 2015 and a performance by Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice that didn't live up to company expectations, according to the New York Post.

Longtime superhero producer Charles Roven recently had to step aside, while fan-favorite comic book writer Geoff Johns stepped up to take more control of DC's movies. This comes on the heels of Johns writing DC Universe: Rebirth, which is aimed at righting the ship on DC's print side.

The Post has no DC-specific details, but says production chief Greg Silverman's job is one of those in danger. That would be little surprise to industry insiders; last year, a string of high-profile disappointments left Silverman vulnerable, and it was actually more of a shock when he renewed his contract than it would have been if he had been shown the door.

Marketing and Distribution head Susan Kroll is also reportedly on the chopping block. While it's difficult to lay the blame for many of Warners' recent failures on marketing, there's likely an argument to be made that when you spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 million marketing a movie that stars Batman and Superman, the studio is not going to be happy when huge numbers of people go into the film's release month assuming it's going to tank and whispering about bad buzz.

Of course, it's difficult to get at just how credible these rumors are. If they're meant to be in response to a perceived failure of Batman V Superman, the fact that this isn't a "DC shakeup" as such is perhaps a little suspect. Johns's recent promotion was hidden inside of a larger WB restructuring, and so upper-management changes planned for six months out may turn out to be as much a result of that as anything. One way to see how much of it is DC-related might be to track how Suicide Squad performs in two months and see whether that changes anyone's fortunes, for better or worse.

Channing Tatum Reportedly "Fully Committed" To GAMBIT, But Will He Still Join The DC Films Universe?

Despite speculation that Channing Tatum may have departed Gambit in preference of a role in the DC Films Universe, a new report offers some clarification on where things stand with the delayed spinoff...

Gambit.jpg

There was a lot of speculation this weekend that Channing Tatum could be making his way to the DC Films Universe (more details on that can be found by clicking here), but now Latino-Review has weighed in with their thoughts on the matter. Apparently, they've reached out to a "deeply embedded source" who tells them that Fox is moving forward with Gambit and that Tatum remains committed.

That's fair enough, but could he still appear in the DC Films Universe? Fox don't seem to have the same non-compete clause it's thought Marvel Studios put in their contracts (hence why Fantastic Four star Michael B. Jordan is jumping ship to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Black Panther), and while the site says that the speculation is off the mark, it's not entirely clear whether that's referring to him leaving Gambit or both that and the actor being cast in an upcoming DC Comics adaptation.

Honestly, there's probably nothing to see here, but stranger things have happened, so we'll have to wait and see. For now, Gambit remains undated and the next comic book movie Tatum will be seen in is the sure to be brilliant Kingsman: The Golden Circle from Matthew Vaughn. What do you think?

If he's smart he will leave Gambit alone. That's a tragedy in slow motion.

It really is. Deadpool was in development hell too though. Maybe Tatum can get advice from reynolds and if he fights hard enough and has a committed director then they can get the ball rolling.

Injustice 2 Promo Poster Rumored for March 2017 release.

Interesting that batman is glowing green and flash is yellow. Could be a sign that the Corps will play a part in this game.

But for that to happen, it would have to be an all new storyline, since most of them died before injustice 1 even began.

and I wouldnt look too much into the Flash director following Channing. For all we know, Channing might be doing a dramatic role for hbo or something directed by him.

Armie Hammer would be a much better choice. He has the voice and presence to pull it off as well as the height to match Bats and Superman.

Suicide Squad Officially Rated PG-13

suicidesquad-reviews-184810.png

Suicide Squad has been rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America.

The film, which comes out in August, drew the rating for sequences of violence and action throughout, disturbing behavior, suggestive content and language.

With the success of the R-rated Deadpool from Fox earlier this year, there had been some speculation that Suicide Squad could be rated R. Filmmakers and producers, though, have said that there's no chance of that.

Nevertheless, filmmaker David Ayer has indicated that he's open to R-rated sequels. There's a spinoff reportedly in the works that will center on Harley Quinn and a number of other female DC superheroes.

An R-rated cut of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be available on digital platforms later this month and on Blu-ray and DVD in July. That "Ultimate Cut" will also feature 30 or so minutes of deleted scenes, including the introduction of Jena Malone's as-yet-unidentified character.

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016.

if they are, he's set for the role. Bat Gordon in the comics was de-aged to 50 or so. Simmons is in his 60s. I guess they could do it for a scene or 2, but I doubt he'll be batman for much longer than that.

Have they confirmed that The Batman will be a prequel to BvS though?

Havent confirmed it will be a prequel. Im sure they will just have a few flashback scenes or scenes with discussions detailing stuff that had happened.

LOL I thought SS was gonna be at least a '15' certification judging by the trailers I seen...

I just pray WB don't fuck this up with unnecessary tinkering but going by recent news on test screenings I'm staying positive

SN: so Deadpool is the only comic book adaptation that has successfully nailed an R rating in recent times? I know both Tim Burton's Batman flicks had '15' ratings...
