The Official DC Cinematic Universe thread - Now Showing - "The Justice League"

So a couple of things we do know about the "Justice League" plot. The villain will indeed be Steppenwolf, as was teased in 'Batman v Superman' and rumored later on. And with him will come the powerful motherboxes, parademons, and other cosmic elements that will be too much for Batman to handle alone. Willem Dafoe will play an Atlantean, Nuidis Vulko, a friend and adviser to Jason Momoa's Aquaman. And despite some previous reports, Amber Heard is indeed still on board to play Mera, Aquaman's love interest.

"Justice League" arrives on November 17th 2017, so that's still a pretty long ways off. Here's the official synopsis, which suggests the story will mostly be Batman and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) marshalling their superheroic forces.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

New Justice League Logos Revealed At Licensing Expo

dc-films-movies-logo-600x450-186807.jpg

Following the trend of a huge day for all things Justice League and DC Comics films, Warner Brothers has unveiled the logos for their upcoming slate of DC Films at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.

At the forefront, beneath a large Justice League banner, are logos for Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman, Suicide Squad, and Green Lantern Corps. The slate spans a time frame of now until 2020.

Some of the films teased with these logos don't yet have release dates. Ben Affleck told ComicBook.com on set of Justice League that his Batman film has an unannounced target date but the script is not ready for production by his standards. The next DC Comics film will be Suicide Squad in August, followed by Wonder Woman next summer, and then Justice League in November of 2017.

Aquaman is set for July of 2018 with Jason Momoa and Amber Heard set to headline the production. Momoa debuted as the aquatic hero in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and will play a much more significant role in next year's Justice League.

Cyborg and Green Lantern are way down the line in 2020 and, aside from release dates, very little is known about either project.

Check out the logos, which were originally shown at San Diego Comic Con in 2015, in the gallery below.

How Superman's Death Creates The Justice League

supermandeath2-186803.jpg

One of the big surprises at the end of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice was the death of Superman.

That plotline is being carried into Justice League, and in fact, it will play a big part in the formation of the team, and hits Batman especially hard.

During an on-set visit via ComicBook.com's Brandon Davis, Producers Deborah Snyder and Chuck Roven were asked about Superman's status in Justice League.

Snyder said: "Well obviously Superman is part of the Justice League. I mean, you know where we ended up with them. And there wouldn't be a Justice League without Superman, but I think his way back to us ... You know, I don't really want to spoil that. But he will appear. He'll get there."

The producers were then asked about the theme of the film, and whether it had more to do with the weight of being a hero.

Synder responded: "No, I think it's about the purpose of being a hero. And I think that Superman's death really did make such a strong effect on Batman, and I think he really regains faith in humanity and everything that's good. Because here's this alien that just gave his life, for us. And I think it really changes who Batman is. And he also feels a responsibility to honor him because he didn't feel like he did it when they were living. So I think you are seeing the elevation of these heroes in this one."

Roven added that the same effect can be seen in Wonder Woman, saying: "And what Superman did didn't just motivate Bruce, although it was a big catalyst for him, but it also was sort of this big motivation for Diana, too. Which you get a sense of at the end of "B.V.S."

The producers were steadfast in not offering any clues as to how Superman gets back to the land of the living, but ultimately he will get there, and the world might look a bit different when he does.

Barry Allen Meets Bruce Wayne in First Clip From Justice League

Justice League is only 31 days into an expected 111 of production but, in a move which was likely an effort to remove doubt towards the project, director Zack Snyder and Warner Brothers were ready to show off the first clip from the film this weekend on set in London.

Snyder was quick to point out that the clip shown was not a “final cut” and even pointed out which aspects of it would receive visual effects upgrades as it played but, nevertheless, the scene sent a message: the producers are listening to critics and fans. Mild spoilers for Justice League follow.

The scene starts out with Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen heading into his apartment. It’s dark and seems to be part of what looks like a warehouse. It’s unconventional - high ceilings, looks old, and is powered by a circuit breaker when Barry arrives to flip its switch. When that switch is flipped, dozens of lights and TV screens hanging from the ceiling are turned on. More importantly, Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne is sitting in Barry’s apartment waiting for him.

“Barry Allen… Bruce Wayne,” Bruce says to a stunned Barry. “You say that is if it’s normal to have a complete stranger sitting in my second favorite chair,” Barry responds to several laughs from the select press members watching. Bruce quickly reveals a print out of a screenshot from the convenience store surveillance footage which served as one of The Flash’s cameos in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Bruce questions Barry about what he’s doing in the moments caught on camera, but Barry insists, comedically, that is someone who looks exactly like him but is definitely not him - just an “attractive Jewish boy.”

Bruce is obviously not convinced, as he throws a Batarang at Barry, also throwing the scene into slow motion with a couple flashes of light and wind accompanying the scene. Barry steps to the side, looking at the Batarang which would have otherwise hit him in the face, and realizes Bruce Wayne is Batman. He catches it (the Batarang was not added into this part of the scene yet so Miller merely performed the motion of catching it) and looks back to Bruce. Time reverts to normal speed and Barry tells Bruce, “You’re the Batman,” to which Bruce responds, “And you’re fast.” Another comedic dime rolls out when Barry tells Bruce he thinks that way of thinking is an “over-simplification.”

Bruce reveals to Barry that he’s recruiting people like him and Barry signs up immediately, with zero hesitation. After a pause, he tells Bruce he “needs friends” and asks to keep the Batarang.

Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017.

The Flash Costume In Justice League Is 148 Pieces

ezra-miller-flash-186701.png

As you might have noticed if you caught the character's cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the big-screen costume for The Flash isn't quite the sleek, one-piece number seen on the TV show.

It's actually a little more like the comics, where presently artists seem to like depicting it as little fragments that come together when it pops out of Barry Allen's ring.

"So the question was how many pieces go into a Flash costume. I believe the count is 148," Justice League costume designer Michael Wilkinson told reporters during a set visit last week. "So you can see in this diagram here – one of my favorite documents is how to put together your own Flash costume. And you can see here all of the notation, and all of the different parts. They all have numbers right and left and they all go together when these great costumers are assembling these costumes."

He also shared the story behind the look, which isn't dissimilar to the one Ezra Miller was seen sporting in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

"Okay, so when Zack and I started talking about Flash, he loved the idea that because this is the first time we're establishing this character in our cinematic universe, that's it's kind of like a prototype suit. He's discovering his powers, he's working out what his thing is, and he is testing things. Some things work, some things don't work. Some things are in development. And so this suit is incredibly beaten up. This is a suit that's being assembled. If you look this way, that is the full suit how it appears in the movie," Wilkinson explained. "It's a prototype suit. It's something that is designed to protect him when he moves incredibly fast through space. And so we studied aerodynamics and vehicle design. What moves through space the fastest? We have this sense of rigid pieces at the front that deflect towards the back....There's a sense of a blade like in a plane wing here, and then venting back here. So it all feels very aerodynamic. He's testing different materials. You can see smooth materials like tech materials. We figured he's an incredibly smart, resourceful young man. He moves very fast, so perhaps he's stolen 3D printers. I'm not saying anything. Maybe he's nipped into NASA and stolen some of the materials that they're developing there."

Of course, one of the suits seen on the set visit sported a WayneTech corporate logo, so perhaps he doesn't need to steal anything at all!

Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder, is filming now. It also stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Ezra Miller as The Flash. Spider-Man villain Willem Dafoe has joined the cast as the Aquaman supporting-character Vulko. Amber Heard will appear as Mera, as well.

The movie is set to hit theaters on November 17, 2017 – the twenty-fifth anniversary of the release of Superman #75, the best-selling finale to "Doomsday!: The Death of Superman."

What The Justice League Producers Learned From Batman v Superman & Man Of Steel

justiceleague-186345.png

It may be years before a truly accurate postmortem on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is done.

The film, which earned nearly $900 million globally, is nevertheless being described as a "disappointment" in Hollywood insider circles, with the logic being that Warner Bros. had hoped the film would top $1 billion like the last two Dark Knight movies did (and analysts looking at the general recognizability of Batman and Superman individually have a point there).

When all is said and done, what did producers Zack and Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven learn that they can bring into the forthcoming Justice League?

"I think every film is a learning experience. We hear what everyone has to say because we care what the fans say," executive producer Deborah Snyder told reporters at a set visit last week. "At the same time, each story that we're telling is a completely different story, and I think what's really great is that where we were going is kind of what the audience is wanting. That's a good thing. We just had to start. We had to take the characters from somewhere to bring them up to where they are. That was kind of our journey."

"I think the main thing we learned, I think people don't like to see their heroes deconstructed," Snyder half-joked. "I think that's hard, because it's people that we've grown up with, and that we care about, and that they like seeing them in all their glory."

Of course, the textbook example of deconstructing superheroes is Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons's Watchmen, a film adaptation of which Zack Snyder released in 2009.

The minute I saw good atlantean months ago I knew it was gonna be Vulko. That's Aquaman's Alfred.

Though didn't he end up screwing over Aquaman?

In the current volume yes but he did that to protect Aquaman and his kingdom actually. In every volume of Aquaman he is always the mentor and one of the biggest supporting characters.
