Horn: Atlas Tried To Ruin My Moment, Say What You Want Teddy!

WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs) was not happy with the way Teddy Atlas spoke to him, during their post-fight interview.

Horn is the new owner of the WBO championship after a controversial points victory against Pacquiao on Sunday in a brutal slugfest at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.

The unanimous decision in favour of the 29-year-old has prompted a storm of debate over the scorecards, with a host of prominent US celebrities, broadcasters and sports stars weighing in, and some even suggesting the outcome was rigged.

Judges Waleksa Roldan (117-111), Chris Flores (115-113) and Ramon Cerdan (115-113) adjudicated the fight. Roldan and Flores are from the United States and Cerdan is from Argentina, yet there have been accusations it was a hometown decision.

According to CompuBox statistics, Horn landed just 92 punches to Pacquaio's 182, but some rounds were tight and difficult to score.

Atlas, a veteran trainer and longtime boxing analyst, was working ringside as part of ESPN's broadcast team.

When the decision was announced, Atlas was furious and expressed his anger to millions of viewers who were catching ESPN's coverage.

"They gave a trophy, a win, a huge win to Horn, the local kid for trying hard," Atlas moaned. "You're not supposed to get it for trying hard, you're supposed to get it for winning!"

Then, in a post-fight interview at ringside, Atlas told Horn to his face that he didn't think he won the fight.

"Congratulations, great effort, but I thought you lost," Atlas said. Pacquiao, standing alongside them, cracked a wide smile.

On Monday, Horn explained that he felt the timing of Atlas' rant was lacking class.

"Everyone has a right to their opinion. The timing of their opinions can be a bit off sometimes. He was trying to ruin the moment for me at that point. It would have been good for him to say it another time. Say what you want, Teddy," Horn said.

Trainer: I Have No Doubt Whatsoever - Horn Will Beat Mayweather!

Glenn Rushton, trainer of Australia's Jeff Horn, says his fighter is ready for Floyd Mayweather Jr. after the Aussie secured a shock victory over Manny Pacquiao to take the Filipino's WBO welterweight title.

The 29-year-old former schoolteacher was awarded a unanimous 12-round decision over the eight-division world champion after a bloody battle in front of more than 51,000 fans at Brisbane's Lang Park on Sunday.

Not everybody was happy with the victory, awarded with scores of 117-111, 115-113 and 115-113 by the three judges.

The critics of the decision pointed to the 182 to 92 punch count in favour of the Pacquiao, with some suggesting that Horn was awarded the victory for effort.

Pacquiao, whose defeat was his first since his blockbuster clash with Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2005, indicated on Sunday that he would take up the option of a rematch and Horn said he would be delighted to face the 38-year-old in his first title defence.

Horn, whose career record improved to 17-0-1, said he would also like to have a crack at 40-year-old Mayweather, who has come out of retirement for a 12-round crossover bout against mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor on August 26.

After concocting a successful 10-point plan for Horn's clash with Pacquiao, Rushton said he was confident he could come up with a blueprint that would end Mayweather's streak.

"It'll be a different plan. I don't know whether it'll be 10 points, eight points or five points," Rushton said.

"I'll need to do the research and spend hundreds of hours like I did studying Manny Pacquiao to crystallise it down to a plan.

"Rest assured, Jeff Horn can beat Mayweather. I don't have any doubt whatsoever.

"If he wants to dust down Conor McGregor, which he will, then by all means ... come back to the real world and take on a real challenge. Jeff Horn's ready and waiting for him."

Horn: They Said Pac Stops Me in 3, Why Not Mayweather Next?

Battered and bruised after scaling 'Pacquiao Mountain', new WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn says he is dead serious about fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr.

And Horn's trainer, Glenn Rushton, reckons he knows how to beat him.

The 29-year-old has set himself yet another lofty goal after Sunday's points win over Pacquiao, one of the greatest boxers of the era.

Asked who he would take on next if it was all up to him, Horn said:

"Good question. Obviously a Mayweather fight would be a great fight. I'd probably prefer that one rather than any other one."

The first thing Horn did after his 'Battle of Brisbane' victory was to call out Mayweather, who has won all 49 of his professional fights and is coming out of retirement to face UFC star Conor McGregor on August 26.

"We're serious. We want the fight," Horn said. "He's an old guy as well, he's over 40.

"They all laughed when I was meant to fight Pacquiao and said it wouldn't last three rounds. Why not get in there with someone like Mayweather?"

Arum: Pacquiao Was Overconfident, His Corner Said Stupid Things!

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum felt Manny Pacquiao was overconfident when he entered the ring last Saturday night against Jeff Horn at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.

Horn, a 2012 Australian Olympian, pulled off a shocking upset with a twelve round unanimous decision over Pacquiao to capture the WBO welterweight championship - before a crowd of over 50,000 fans at the venue.

The judges scored it 115-113, 115-113 and 117-111 - with all three backing Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs).

Pacquiao admitted afterwards that he didn't realize how tough Horn was.

Arum was angered by some of the pre-fight comments that were being made by Pacquiao's handlers - who were calling Horn a "tuneup" opponent and gave him zero chance of winning.

Arum had warned them over and over that Horn was not a walkover opponent.

"As what happens when you go in overconfident and you know you have the morons in his corner saying that the only way Horn could win the fight is Manny trips his way to the ring. What kind of sh*t is that? I mean I saw the kid fight in New Zealand. I knew he was a competent fighter. I knew it would be a tough fight," Arum said to News To Go.

Pacquiao intends to exercise a rematch clause. Arum is not going to force the issue on him.

"If Manny wants a rematch, I would do it. But I am not advocating a rematch. That's up to Manny," Arum said.

There were many observers who felt the outcome was controversial, with Pacquiao being robbed of a win.

Arum disagrees with the public outcry. He felt the contest was very close and far from a robbery.

"It was a close fight. It could have gone either way. A couple of close rounds, but you can't argue with the result," Arum said.

"I scored a lot of the early rounds for Jeff. Then I had Manny coming back in the middle. The 12th round, Jeff really won. If you give Manny the 11th, you have it a draw. You give Jeff the 11th, it's 7-5."

According to Zonio, the fight with Horn is Pacquiao's last promotional obligation with Top Rank - but he believes that Arum will use a potential rematch with Horn as a bargaining chip to extend the boxer's contract.

Horn Invited By Arum To ESPYS, May Confront Stephen A. Smith

Jeff Horn could soon find himself rubbing shoulders with the same ESPN personalities who slammed the decision to crown him the victor in Sunday's 'Battle of Brisbane'.

Top Rank supremo Bob Arum has suggested Australia's new WBO welterweight champion should be formally introduced to the US boxing scene at the ESPYS, the sports network's glitzy annual awards show, in Los Angeles on July 12.

It comes after a harsh overseas reaction to Horn's unanimous points victory over the legendary Manny Pacquiao.

ESPN presenter Stephen A. Smith was among the more voracious critics of the result while commentator Teddy Atlas suggested Horn was handed the victory as a reward for merely "trying hard".

"It's fair to say if it all works out that we do go up there, we'd have a chat to Stephen A. Smith. He's one of America's great commentators," Horn's promoter Dean Lonergan said.

"Stephen A was pretty vocal with what he had to say but I'm sure maybe his promoter will be just as vocal as Stephen A back.

"We'd have to talk to Jeff about that and see if he wanted to go. I'm sure he would.

"Jeff Horn's life's changed now, he's on a whole different planet when it comes to his fame and boxing future.

"Things like the ESPYS, they've been talked about already. Bob said that would be a great idea. How cool is that?"
