Ice Cube needs to be made ‘happy’ to give up Vegas arena for Mayweather-McGregor

After weeks of negotiating between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor and months of trash talk teasing the possibility of their megafight, terms for the bout were finally agreed upon last week. Fans were actually tipped to that announcement by earlier reports that Mayweather’s promotional company had gotten the go-ahead from Nevada authorities to stage a major boxing match in Las Vegas on Aug. 26.

However, things have hit just a wee bit of a snag. The desired venue for the fight, T-Mobile Arena, has already been booked for that date, and now none other than Ice Cube must be made whole if Mayweather and McGregor want to square off there.

The BIG3, the rapper/actor’s three-on-three basketball league which debuts Sunday, has already booked that arena for its championship game, to be held Aug. 26. The league even tweeted out a photo of the building Friday, and it noted that tickets were already available.

However, Ice Cube is willing to be pragmatic about things, and he said Monday that he could step aside for Mayweather-McGregor — as long as he came away “happy” from those negotiations. TMZ Sports reported Saturday that the BIG3 event may be moved to the nearby MGM Grand Garden Arena.

When asked on FS1’s “Undisputed” (via Fox Sports) if a financial arrangement between the BIG3 and the fight promoters could be reached, Ice Cube said, “Of course,” adding, “If they do what they’re supposed to do and make us happy, yeah, we’ll move.”

Given the massive windfall expected to be generated by the fight — ESPN’s Darren Rovell recently concluded that total revenue likely was to top $600 million — its promoters should be able to do right by Ice Cube and his league. They would have plenty of incentive, as well, given that it would be very difficult to change the date and that T-Mobile Arena has emerged as the premiere combat-sports venue in Las Vegas.

Opened April 2016, it wasn’t long before the arena was hosting major boxing and MMA events such as Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan and UFC 200. T-Mobile saw McGregor win his second fight against Nate Diaz there at UFC 202 in August, and Ronda Rousey was flattened by Amanda Nunes there at UFC 207 in December, while Alvarez returned to the venue to defeat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in May.

Mayweather has yet to compete there, but only because he went into retirement after his most recent fight, a win over Andre Berto in September 2015 that ran his record to 49-0. That event took place at the MGM Grand, which had been the go-to Las Vegas venue for huge fights, but which has since been eclipsed, although it presumably would work well for the BIG3.

As for a prediction for the fight, wherever it winds up taking place, Ice Cube was confident in its outcome, telling the “Undisputed” panel, “Yeah I know what’s going to happen.” He said, “I think Mayweather gonna put them thangs on him.”

Exactly why Oscar made sure to take that arena for the 15th. He knew what was coming. He got enough inside connects.

I wonder how much Pacquiao making for this fight since it on ESPN now or his shit already guaranteed. Than again Bob will Bob lol.

I predicted the outcome of Ward vs. Kovalev 2. Kovalev litterally got the fight beaten out of him. He got no inside game and just followed Dre and threw a jab and 1-2. No hooks, no bodywork, nothing. He did well but Dre controlled him for most of the fight ad reduced him to only throwing his jab. When Kovalev started whining to the ref I knew it was only a matter of time.

Some of those blows were on the beltline, BUT if they were really low/ hitting his cup like he tried to say after the fight his reaction would've been different. Can't look for the ref to save you. This is the pro's, baby. Dre showed us once again why he p4p.

What y'all think of Errol calling out Danny Garcia to fight while he waits for Thurman to recooperate

He daring to be great. I respect it. He wanna clean out his division. Eventually he'll fight Bud and he knows that. Those two are the biggest talents in that 140 - 147 division.

Salido Has Agreed in Principle To Vasyl Lomachenko Rematch

By Ben Jacobs

A much talked about rematch between Vasyl Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) and Orlando ‘Siri’ Salido (44-13-4, 31 KOs) could be close to fruition. Earlier tonight Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times tweeted that the Staples Center in California is on hold for August 5 with a view to hosting that bout.

Mexico’s Salido handed Lomachenko his first defeat in what was only his second professional contest back in March, 2014, via a split decision.

BoxingScene.com tonight reached out to Salido’s manager, Sean Gibbons, for an update on the possibility.

“Salido has agreed in principle to the rematch”, Gibbons confirmed.

“There’s one hang-up that Top Rank is trying to work out still and we have a meeting about that tomorrow.

“Financially Salido has agreed to terms so it’s a matter of working out one last thing which I’ll leave to Top Rank to handle. We’ve done everything possible to give Lomachenko the chance to avenge his only professional loss.”

‘Siri’ last fought in his hometown on May 27 claiming victory over Aristides Pérez who retired on his stall while Lomachenko stopped former world champion Jason Sosa in April.

“Salido is older, a little more tired, Lomachenko is a little better so it makes for an intriguing fight,” Gibbons continued.

“Salido is not shot hand and feet wise, maybe doesn’t take as good a shot but he gets up and he’s there to rumble all night.

“He’s a big man at that weight and that creates problems for Lomachenko who is really not a big guy. If he goes to 135lbs he’s going to have a problem.

“We should know by Thursday what’s happening.”

Cube and T-Mobile already signed that contract so they have to compensate him for moving off that date and Cube knows that.

T-Moblie can force him off that date but it would be cheaper for T-Mobile to reach a settlement than to force him off the date and then get sued for breaching that contract. They would have to pay Cube more at the end if it went to court.

If I was Cube, I'd try to ask for at least whatever the initial investment paid into his basketball league thing was. That way it'll be zero risk and potential all profit from once it kicks off.

Cube's bout to make more from Mayweather v McGregor than Kovalev did against Ward.....

and he ain't got shit to do with any of them! lol
