Korobov on Golovkin: I've Waited a Long Time For This Opportunity

Last week, BoxingScene.com first reported that Cameron Dunkin, manager for Matt Korobov (25-1), had approached with an offer for his fighter to face WBA/IBF/IBO/WBC interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0) on April 23rd.

Korobov was a star in the amateur boxing system. He beat a lot of top talent in his amateur run - like Daniel Jacobs, Oleksandr Usyk, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Alfonso Blanco, Jarrod Fletcher, Darren Sutherland, Ismail Syllakh.

The one man he didn't beat in the amateurs was Golovkin, who beat Korobov in the 2003 world amateur championships in Bangkok.

Korobov has long said that he wants to get revenge for the defeat.

According to Korobov, there are ongoing negotiations and he hopes a deal will get done.

"Right now there are negotiations," said Korobov. "The fight is tentatively scheduled for April 23. Naturally, I immediately agreed. I have been waiting for a long time for this opportunity, and we will be ready."

In December 2014, Korobov was outboxing Andy Lee for the WBO title - until he got caught and stopped in the sixth round. He came back on January 16th with a decision win over Josue Ovando.

Golovkin had hoped to face current WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders (who beat Lee for the belt). Saunders went in another direction. IBF mandatory challenger Tureano Johnson suffered a shoulder injury that requires surgery and that placed him out of the running.

Should Golovkin win his next fight, against whoever the opponent might be, he has a fall showdown lurking with WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez - if the two sides reach an agreement.

lmaoooo, that vid is on repeat... on some real shit tho, Floyd was CLASSES above these fighters...anyone that appreciates and knows boxing will agree to that, I can´t help but mentally compare these fighters in the ring to Floyd, and they all fall maaad short, watching Floyd´s old fights even before De La Hoya, he was putting a clinic on these niggas, literally beating the shit out of them, even bigger fighters like Corrales and Baldomir, Floyd took them apart.

Floyd was YEARS AHEAD OF THESE CURRENT NIGGAS...
