Team Horn Will Attempt To Secure Conor McGregor Fight Next
As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn has announced he is lining up England's Gary Corcoran for his first world title defence in Brisbane.
Horn and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk made the announcement in Brisbane on Sunday afternoon.
The title fight between Horn and Corcoran — who has a record of 17 wins and one loss with seven knockouts — is expected to be held at the Brisbane Convention Centre on December 13.
"I'm happy to have my first defence of it [the title] here in Brisbane again," Horn said. "It's going to be a very entertaining fight, Gary comes to fight, he's a walk-forward fighter. I think for that reason it's going to be a big clash, an all-action clash that everyone is going to enjoy."
Promoter Dean Lonergan said negotiations were being finalised with Corcoran's management.
Lonergan will attempt to lure in UFC superstar Conor McGregor, who in August made his boxing debut with a TKO defeat at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas.
"We are also working on a second event here at some stage next year before June 30," Lonergan said. "We'd love to have Manny Pacquiao down here [again], he's certainly one of the guys on the table.
"There are a number of other massive fights out there for Jeff. There's been some murmurings and rumblings that perhaps we could get Conor McGregor down here.
"I would put the challenge out to Conor McGregor — tell me how much you want and we'll see if we can make it work."
Horn (17-0-1) stunned the boxing world when he beat Filipino star Manny Pacquiao to win the WBO welterweight championship at Lang Park in July.
Earlier this week, Horn was honoured for his achievement, winning The Don Award as the athlete to have most inspired Australia in 2017 for his title win.
Following lengthy negotiations, Horn was planning for a rematch with the veteran fighter in Brisbane on November 12, but Pacquiao — who is also a senator in the Philippines — announced in September that he was pulling out of the fight because of political commitments.
