"Their actuary expects 14 percent of all former players to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and another 14 percent to develop moderate dementia over the next 65 years, according to the data...The actuary estimated that former players were at twice the risk for Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Lou Gehrig's disease and dementia as the general population between the ages of 20-60 years old.

The report was prepared for Senior U.S. District Judge Anita B. Brody, who is presiding over the class-action lawsuit in Philadelphia that accuses the NFL of hiding information that linked concussions to brain injuries."

These expected numbers are craaaazy. I wonder what the supply of willing talent looks like 20 years from now. All the info that has come out in the past 6-8 years really works to discourage parents from even having their kids play football. There will always be ppl willing to take the risks. Maybe players start calling it a career earlier (the one's who have a choice).

Its already happening. 3 straight years participation for pop warner football has decreased. Moms are concerned of the residual affects to the brain football will have on their kids.

Trust the NFL is scared of this.

In the future the sport that will increase in popularity will be soccer

I was actually gonna @ you in that post and say that 50 year prediction you made isn't far fetched. Ppl will talk money...blah blah blah...but over time less and less sponsors will want anything to do with this. And as rules change more and make it a game so much different than the one we grew up loving, fans will go elsewhere as well. You can see ppl already becoming highly irritated in this very thread (they ain't going anywhere fast...but still).

Damn AP! sucks it had to be you. And on the week the viks play the bitch ass pats.

I was beat with a tree branch as a kid. So meh at the whole situation.

The lawsuits are gonna kill the nfl. The players who are more likely to suffer from head injuries are offensive and defensive linemen, running backs, full backs, and tight ends and they get paid the least amount of money.

High school kids have died from head injuries as well and inthe future high school leagues will get sued big time and they wont have the money.

Lawxuits and your labor force over time shrinking cuz parents are pushing them to other sports are gonna kill football.

thats why they market heavily to women and football. The whole league wearing pink in october for breast cancer awareness is to keep women engaged for a great cause. It used to be only one week in october now its the whole month. Young women being sideline reporters women in nfl commercials its all marketing their afraid of more moms pulling away their sons from playing football at a young age

I'm all for whooping kids asses. Hell, I used to get them with thick leather belts, shoes, switches and paddles. You can't be leaving bruises on 4 year olds though. The switch was probably too thin. Should have used a belt.

I was thinking about that A.P. case the other day. About whether ol dude had got convicted of killing his son? Has it even went to trial?
