Redskins draft grade :B+
- I'm blown the Rams got Quinn. I would've done backflips. That said, I'm happier with Kerrigan at 16 plus picks than just Quinn at 10. I think that Kerrigan doesn't have the ceiling of Smith or Quinn, but is an underrated athlete and more than talented enough to be our 2nd pass rusher. I think it's really being overlooked that having a guy like that with his motor is devastating when pair with another relentless guy like Orakpo. We have a very heady, talented, blue collar set of LBs. Tell me, who has the worst work ethic between Fletch, Rak, and Kerrigan? LBs are the heart and soul of the 3-4.
- I think Jenkins was the right pick since Ryan Williams was gone (damn). Paea would have been an undersized NT for us and not really long enough for DE. Austin has too many motor questions and I don't think he would have the right attitude to play some NT.
Jenkins offers us flexibility and multiple personnel packages. He may not be as talented, but I think he is our Raji. He and Carriker are our 3 down linemen. You put Bryant at NT on running downs. On passing downs, you kick Jarvis inside and put Jarmon at DE. Jenkins and Carriker are both big, strong and athletic enough to play the two man front in nickel packages.
- I think Hankerson at 79 is a steal, he's like Wayne without hands. Reggie initially had terrible hands and was very frustrating so Hank has hope. Our team is a great spot. Working with Mike and Kyle, tutoring from Santana and McCardell, and another mentor to vouch for Kyle in Andre Johnson. I expect Hankerson to be a gem.
- Says a lot that Shanny passed on all that RB talent and traded up for Helu with a lot of talent still on the board. I see a younger, healthier Torain with sub 4.4 speed. He could be a star.
I like that we got 6 defenders and 6 offensive guys. Lots of options and depth. 2 LBs, 2 DLs, 2 DBs, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 OL (to go with the 3 drafted last year). Shanny's roster overhaul is complete when you look up this season. He's laid a foundation and can spend the coming seasons upgrading. I see a roster where I'm comfortable with every unit and I only see a hole at center and QB and CB are wait and see.
After FA I expect our team to be much more competitive than anyone is giving credit for. We went through a complete revamp during the course of our season and still won 6 games. Between addition by subtraction of malcontents and poor fits, infusion of youth, bringing in pieces that fit, our transition to more blue collar mentality, and the natural growth of young players/familiarilty with the systems, that the Skins will be closer to contention for the Lombardi than Andrew Luck. Not saying we're there, but it's coming.
