Share some of these politics

Well i mean politics like, you have to talk to people a certain way, how you have to always think 20 steps ahead when a businessman puts a deal on the table, how niggas really hate you but respect you for what you do, how you always have to watch every move you make, how you CANT be a nice person in the business. Just simple politics that occur in any business.

After i get some serious responses ill tell some stories of how ive been fucked over by the industry and how i grew and now call people out.

Seems like for starters it would be in ur best interest to create a entire pseudo identity/life and/or be a convincing liar and excellent seller of good, digital bull-ish( oxymoron intended). and make certain that it sells. The game is not customer service, they not operating on that level. the level they operate on is more like business to business level which involve a lot of deal making. And the artist is supposed to be the one that flip the script (labels need artist, not rly the other way around). But wit some of the deals these artist be agreeing to, its not only labels, but even clubs, promoters, radio kick game to the artist and got em outchea paying to play the game. The very game the artist himself supposed to own.

iight thats word, ill start.

When i started doing radio, one of the biggest promoters in town approached me wanting an interview, i killed that shit and gave him a dope interview.

2nd time comes arouund he contacts me again saying if he can come by the show for 5 min just to promote a big sean concert, and seeing as though his pull is huge i said yes, so like an hour before he comes through he texts me saying "we're doing an interview, and i have the camera crew with me" and at this point im pissed because im caught off guard but excited for the exposure, so we did another interview, it got mad buzz and he put the video on youtube and didnt give me any credit whatsoever. But then when he did other interviews with more known DJs he got theyre name all over the youtube videos. He didnt even say thank you...

So i saw him at a party, i minded my own business and he hit me up again for another interview but this time it was to giveaway tickets, and this was going to get me about 1,000 more listeners, i thought about it for a while and my manager told me not to do it but being the young n dumb dude that i was i did it, and it was a huge success, i had 83 people call the station within a hour, i gave away tix n CDs and more people got hip to me. So he put the third interview on youtube and before he did that i told him to give me my credit, so on the video it just said my twitter name for a second (literally) and that was it...didnt say the show title, my name, or anything.

In the end i turned out to be the top 3 radio host for hip hop in my city in less then a year, and the promoter has seen my success, and is always on me, but i brush him off, and now hes always askin for favors, i just ignore him and keep it moving. thats one example but ill throw some more out there. it gets deeper

What a damn shame....Not involved with the industry myself, but anyone who's been out in the world knows how shady things can be. You really have to remind yourself what you're in it for and why you put up with the bullshit you do...and of course, find places and/or people where you can live for what you believe in. Some things you gotta accept and live it with...but that doesn't mean you have to give up on your goals

Being in this game, i always gotta keep that in mind, i really just been learning that 80% of people in this game will screw you around, theres noone to trust, and you always gotta watch whos watching you. Suge knight once said

"theres 2 types of people in the industry, the person everyone loves and doesnt respect and the person that noone likes but respects, you have to choose one"

As farfetched as that sounds, when u really take it in, i feel like hes right.

The industry doesnt give a fuck about the artist but at the same time they couldnt make a dollar without him. It sucks cause im a nice outgoing person, and i can never be myself, i always have to be serious, i always gotta be on point and i can never get caught slipping, every word, every move, every deal, every person counts. Theres artist out there who pay hundreds for interviews man, its all about the benjamins

Industry is definitely cutthroat. 99.9% of all the top names in music have fucked over atleast one person to get their spot. Everybody claim they got connections but most niggaz at the bottom level be lying they dusty azz's off just to make themselves look good. Half the artist that made it got dope boyz funding them buying publicity from labels. So basically the music industry is ran by dope $$$. Every single artist in mainstream has a d-boy funding them. Its not about who's the most talented its who can keep money in the pockets of these Industry bigwigs.

Thats one thing alot of people dont realize either man, drugs is a huge part of the indsutry, you need money for exposure (HALF THE TIME). Everything in the industry is chess, n its crazy cuz these people will suck the life out of you. despite all this im hungry, becaue i want to make it in the game being that person that shows u dont have to be a greedy, manipulative, deceptive person to be sucessful in the game. People in general in every industry just dont know how to keep it real.

Homie i knew was a great writer, who kept giving inquiries to a magazine (cant say the name) they never responded but eventually the owner took interest into my boy. So the owner promised him a internship, but the owner wanted info on what artist were hot and whos doing what. My boy gives him the info, the owner featured these artists, who have now become established names, and my nigga didnt get an internship, but he found his own lane writing for the news instead. So now that owner is making money off advertisement for getting hot features from starving individuals..

kinda off topic but what are your career goals? are you just like trying to become the hottest Dj, or are you planning on branching out at some point?

Well my career goal is pretty spread out, PR, marketing, management (artists x tour), A&R work, journalism and working for the press are all goals of mine so basically everything behind the scenes

Great thread. I'm an up and coming producer who choose artists I work with carefully ...how is the production lane in music industry? More so how can I make it with limited connections? I'm highly conscious who I associate my music and work with, but coming from N.O, I know I have to branch of to LA, ATL, NY

good thread, mane its seemingly impossible to get music heard around here, closest thing ive ever come to the industry is my old group opening for hurricane chris once and playa fly once(not really close at all lol) ive tried numerous times to connect with online bloggers or local dj's only to get ignored or told its a fee or some shit, im like "but what happened to playin it cuz its hot, it can take off, and benefit us all" plus niggas dont wanna work at all let alone together, i really slowed on selling beats locally because 1. niggas songs ended up boo boo, 2. niggas dont wanna be professional, and 3. niggas dont even promote their own shit, they expect u to do it. so now im just tryna learn about how id go about gettin possible production placements, or getting that one song out there while tryna get my money situation together, its tough to stay with it mane lol
