So I made this thread because I've put my foot in the door in the music industry through radio hosting. I've come to find out that the game is cutthroat, full of politics, and you're always under the scope.
My questions are, what does it take to make it in the industry? (behind the scenes and in the scene)
What are your experiences? politics? Skills needed? contracts? tours? press?
Post anything you know about the industry so people can get the raw reality of the business
You would think rappers in today's social media age would wake up to realize they don't need big business.
Sure, you wouldn't be on a major label or have millions of fans, but you have total control over what goes into your content.( IE the DIY mentality that is in Indie Rock music.)
To be mainstream, you have to appeal to tweens and teens. F that. I am not dumbing myself down for a specific demographic.
I am thankful to have an uncle who knows how to play guitar/drums who taught me how to record beats myself. Not many Hip Hop artists have that skill. They hire someone else to do it for them.
