Damn I was looking for this thread a few days ago and couldn't even find it. A few beats I just finished.

I gave your tracks a listen when you dropped them. I'm really feeling the samples used in the first one, but I don't like that filter where it sounds like it drowns out the audio... I forget what it's called, and it's not a bad effect when used sparingly, but khaled and them played it out and it doesn't really go with the rest of the track... the second track wasn't my cup of tea....

That's a simple bandpass on the first and the second track is real left either you're going to love it or hate it. A lot of people like that track.

I like the atmosphere of the first beat with the bells and the clock ticking that's dope. It seems like it's more fitting for a movie or like an interlude than to actually spit over though. And as long as it is it could use stronger transitions. The organ was a good touch as well, but it gets muddy when you bring the two organ melodies together.

That second one is dope, especially that transition in like the middle of the song and the vocal samples thrown in.

How yall feel about hardware vs software? You think you can consider yourself a fire producer without having any skills with hardware? Do you need skills with a live instrument to be upper echelon?

I think its all preference but you need to have some knowledge or skill with real instruments to reach a higher level. If you look at all the top producers (Kanye, Dre, Neptunes etc) they all have an understanding of instruments and scoring besides replaying samples

And I love sampling btw

Thanks for the feedback... you confirmed some things i was thinking... ima try to push the pendulum track further... maybe with some cymbals or some effects...

I agree with what @BlackGerald is saying... I'm a fan of live instrumentation and I feel like understanding music theory it adds a certain amount of authenticity to projects... like knowing what key your song is in... At first, my basic understanding of composing music discouraged me for a long time from even trying, but I found that the more time I put into it, the better my beats are sounding...

Also, I was first using a Yamaha keyboard and recording straight into garageband, but the sound wasn't thick enough and the drums were really weak (I posted a beat previously on this board that used nothing but keyboard audio with very little sampling, and I feel like it wasn't up to par) ... now all I use are samples, packs and software instruments...

Anybody here still use an ASR-10?

I have one, dont use it. It was cool while it lasted but it didnt accomplish anything FL couldnt.

I've grown into using both together. All of my mixes, arrangements, etc are done in the box but I have got into a synth frenzy so I got a few good outboard joints. I used to wish I could read music and all that but I figure my knowledge, or lack thereof, made my skill set a bit unique and more creative in that I dont know bounds. So thats my excuse for not learning music properly.

Anybody use maximus instead of the limiter?

Seamless mixes his master tracks this way and I'm wondering wth the difference would be

I use them both interchangeably, I think maximus and soundgoodizer are almost one in the same. I use one limiter or clipper on my master mix. With sidechaining, I use the limiter too....other than that, I thats about the only stock FL plugins.

Don't know about maximus, but do you feel like using the limiter brings down the overall sound quality of the track?

I notice no difference in sound when I add a limiter. All that changes is my master channel stops going red

Yea fruity limiter is like a clipper, except for you can add more gain and compression. Depending on where its placed on the rack, it can hurt the quality because compressors can fuck shit up if theyre processing before other shit.
