Angel Heart (1987) starring Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro, & Lisa Bonet. Set in 1955 a Brooklyn private detective named Harry Angel is hired by a man named Louis Cyphre to track down a singer named Johnny Favorite who has disappeared after reneging on a deal with Cyphre. The case takes Angel to the deep dark underbelly of the Louisiana voodoo/devil worshipping scene. It's fairly simple to realize what's happening early on but I promise you won't be prepared for the mindfuck ending. Also has that infamous Lisa Bonet sex scene in it. 6.5/10.

Austrian Horror, 2 twins become suspicious when their mother returns home after an operation which leaves her covered in bandages and acting irrationally. You can see the twist coming from a mile away but its purposely pre-emptive.Things take a turn for the slightly nasty in the third act.I didn't mind it, simple concept well told and executed.

I knew i was in for a treat when Neil Jordans name flashed on the opening credits, Bob Hoskins plays an ex con fresh out of prison who gets a job chauffeuring a high class lady of the night around.Once he starts falling for her and she realises he's bait for the taking in a concocted scheme, things start to get fucked very quickly.the leads are excellent and the supporting cast are not bad either (michael caine as hoskins boss, robbie coltrane as his best friend and even an early appearance from the one and only Clarke Peters aka Lestor Freamon.)

really liked the way this movie depicted that world in london at the time.

Slumdog Millionaire - seen this a couple of times before and ave always enjoyed it.That Amitabh Bachan scene is still a classic.

I expected a lot more from this seeing as the reviews were generally really good, I'm a fan of Jason Bateman but i feel like he was slightly miscast here (especially as the story goes on and the true nature of his character is gradually revealed) plus the drama didn't elevate it self to anything overly gripping.Definitely made in the nature of an old school thriller.

one my wife recommended to me, the head of an indian family living in the slums becomes increasingly agitated with the state of flux in his family and decided to take a stand by not adhering to gossip or slander and believing only that which he can see with his eyes and hear with his own ears.light hilarity ensues, although the ending went completely over my head.

Blew the dust off the blu ray the other night, since i haven't seen this since it was released.Still one of the best prison movies to come out in the last decade. If you haven't seen it i highly recommend it.

American Ultra - tis film felt like someone somewhere literally put a bunch of genres into a hat and then picked out like 3 or 4 on which they formulate a script out of.Why this was labelled as a stoner movie of sorts is beyond me, that element added virtually nothing to the movie.Movie was overly violent as well, beyond the point of excess.

The Man From Uncle - enjoyable enough to kill a couple of hours on any given night, surprised it didn't do a lot better than it did.

Trainwreck - I never thought John Cena trying to talk dirty would ever have me in tears n/h , he was arguably the bets thing about this movie.

Inherent Vice - currently on repeat every night on Sky Movies.. Paul Thomas Anderson's Californian hippie adaptation about 'nothing' really.. best to see this if you're incredibly bored and probably high. It's a decent enough movie and captures that era brilliantly

Iron Man 2 - I personally think this is the best film outta the trilogy. The CGI was off the chain. Stark's flaunting/stunting here was extra bogus. Mickey Rourke made a good villain and Don Cheadle was a great/better replacement for Terrence Howard

Life - I saw this first time in the late 90s as a teenager on VHS. Saw it last night for the first time since then and it is a good film with nice comedic elements and drama.

Downsides was a 'house nigger' character and a Black man donning drag .. I also learnt the director passed on in 2002 and was the nephew of the legendary Jonathan Demme (Silence Of The Lambs)

There was a richness of Black talent in this film from comedians to musicians and screen actors. It also made you reflect on ageing as humans and it's inevitability. Possibly the last decent movie Eddie Murphy starred in.. .

rip. Heavy D and Bernie Mac

Man the film itself is trippy on its own. I guess it's an ode to that time of hallucinogenic drug taking. I read Anderson adapted the screenplay word for word from the novel..

It has a noir feel to it.

Yea i watched inherent vice a while ago, at the end i was like wtf was the point of this movie

I feel like i need to watch it again and pay close attention

Bronson

S/O to @not_osirus_jenkins for the recommendation. The movie is a biopic/drama about the most notorious criminal in England named Michael Peterson aka Charles Bronson. He got locked up for 7 years for robbing a jewelry store, but he was such a savage in prison that he got that upped to 30+ years, and he spent most of that in solitary. Dude is charismatic as hell, he's fuckin everybody up but he's hilarious and tragic at the same time. Been a fan of Tom Hardy for a while, and I thought my favorite performance of his was The Drop. I think this is definitely up there.

9/10 movie for me

There is a scene of male nudity in here, but that shouldn't stop you from seeing this.

Shit was crazy right? The whole story was trippy but he played the hell out of that role.

Shaft (2000) - .. a sequel rather than a remake which I thought was brilliant. Richard Roundtree is related by blood to Sam Jack's 'Shaft' character

The plot centres on a racially motivated homicide and it's relevance is strong in the current climate

Brilliant performances all round but the stand out was Jeffrey Wright playing a Dominican street drug kingpin. He kilt that ish..

The Grey - Liam Neeson and a couple of other men are the survivors of a plane crash in the midst of a severe winter storm somewhere in Alaska. And they are also hunted and killed one by one by a pack of wild wolves.

Nature vs. Survival. One of Neeson's recent better films

'71 - a British soldier loses his unit/platoon in the restless streets of Belfast, N. Ireland in 1971 during the 'Troubles' and is pursued by the IRA to be killed. The tension within this film was tense. I never thought White people could despise themselves this way over flags and religious affiliations. ..

Recommended to those who've followed the Irish fight for independence from the United Kingdom

Only watched this on netflix cuz i knew regina hall was in it. Turns out i actually really liked it. It's about a father of 2 (new zealand dude from flight of the conchords) who's gf cheats on him and leaves him at their kids' bday party. He's a graphic artist whos also a college professor. One of his students (jessica williams) sets him up with her mom (regina hall). It's pretty cute.

Good doc about soul food - where it came from, black people's associations with it, health risks and how to make it healthier/eat better overall.

He wasn't trying to rape the prison guard he rubbed the oil all over himself so that when he is fighting the guards it is hard for them to keep hold of him, I can see how some might think that tho, the first time I watched it I was like wtf! I was praying for Andy Love.
