LOL that was your goal? To convince me that he's a legend? Cause if so, yes, I am convinced. Congratulations.

No one even mentioned him. He just wants attention.

people troll him and although he falls for it everytime he then reacts to it and it fucks up threads, so cutter just ignore it and people stop mentioning shit like 'icp sucks'

A legend (in the context of Hip Hop) is an individual, group, or organization whose contributions or actions create for themselves a timeless icon forever associated with the subject at hand.

Ex:

- Lauryn Hill for being the most successful female artist AND musician to craft a masterpiece and subsequently leave the industry of her own accord

- Eminem for being a long-lasting Caucasian male rapper

- Wu Tang for their ground-breaking contract negotiations

- Uncle Luke for being a business pioneer in the Southern region

- Notorious BIG for making superior music for his era and being assassinated before fully realizing himself as an artist with potential or an artist on a decline

- Deathrow Records for operating in a mainstream multi-million dollar industry while being owned by a minority and using dangerous means of obtaining goals

- Lil Kim for establishing the over-sexualization of women in the culture of Hip Hop

A veteran is an individual who has been in the the culture long enough to be respected as an elder and whose potential for artistic and monetary success has been realized.

Ex:

-Wu Tang individually

-Busta Rhymes

-Big Boi

-Nas

-Common

-Twista

Some rappers fall in both categories, and some fall in just one. Jay-Z falls in both categories for different reasons. Busta Rhymes falls in one category. Biggie falls in only one category.

discuss

Great thread...............I cosign all this shit completely.

Like I said, no one even mentioned him in this thread, and it's far from ruined. The most hardheaded poster in the Reason was convinced that Nas is actually a legend and not just a Braveheart veteran.

A vet is someone in the game whos just been around for a long time but hasnt done anything really groundbreaking that took the game by storm or completely changed something up. A legend is someone who did the groundbreaking things that were unheard of at the time & whose tales would prolly be considered "myth" to the new niggas coming up.

A legend is someone who did the groundbreaking things that were unheard of at the time & whose tales would prolly be considered "myth" to the new niggas coming up.

My examples of Vets:

Fat Joe

Puffy

Z-Ro & Trae

Lil Wayne

Ludacris

DMX

My examples of Legends:

Wu Tang Clan

50 Cent

Hov

Nas

Eminem

Rakim

KRS-One

Busta Rhymes

Fam I gotta disagree with u puttin Busta as a vet tho.... nigga did real songs with Big, had Janet Jackson on his records, leaders of the new school, was combining difft styles of music long b4 hov was doin tracks w/ linkin park (he did songs for ozzy osbourne a true legend) battled with both hov & big, was competing at the grammys with LL & Big, helped destroy Ja, sold platinum consistently & pushed the envelop for music videos as well. When Big died Busta was holdin it down & helped keep NY a float. In terms of rhyme style, NO ONE can match or compare to Busta & he can hold his own against ANY MC in the game. he can switch it up and come back to fit the feel of the record. he stands out from anybody in the game & lyrically could demolish i think any MC (except Em). Busta is a legend.

It baffles me that niggas will put Common & The Wu on there but not Busta Rhymes as a legend. Busta BEEN legendary fam.

I feel like Busta Rhymes' career is like a tree falling in the forest and nobody being there to hear the sound. Do you see how he rips verse after verse nowadays and people scoff at it? For me, Busta lost alot of his "electricity" when he changed up during the Ja Rule vs Interscope battle. He stopped being animated and started trying to be a supergangster rapper.

To be a Vet all you have to do is be a rapper who's basically consistent for 8 or more years. That was basically everyone thats mentioned in this thread. To be a legend, you have to be 1st at doing shit that maybe only you can get away with !! There's alot of emcees that thread both lines. Most 80's and 90's emcees are both because of it. There's no debating LL, KRS, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, NWA, Run DMC. They lasted long on record labels, got huge deals, Made Movies, Endorsements before it was popular but got classic music. They set the tone that's still being used today by the current Vets/legends,Fat Joe ( Yes, Fat Joe, Big Pun anyone !! What other 90's emcee brought a beast in the game and fell back in the shadow to let him shine ?) Nas, Jay, Busta, Wu-Tang. Most groups are Legends themselves because they shared the mic to some degree.
