Astros may as well sign encarncion.I wouldn't trade for cabrera he'll be 34 next season and has 7 years 220 mil left on his contract

Unless the tigers eat mad dough that trade wouldn't make sense cuz they'd have to give up prospects too

Thats what I was thinking. Im assuming detroit would probably want springer and they might try to snag bregman too but I think the astros would say no if they ask for him.

Tigers farm is trash. They need young talent/good prospects more than any team in mlb besides maybe the angels so yea they'd ask for probably at least bregman

Dombrowski has a history of trading away prospects or young players too.Kopech is the red sox #1 pitching prospect,Devers top 3 and plays 3b,benitendi young lf/rf who can hit,If they throw in bradley and maybe a lower level prospect that would be hard to pass up.Cuz you have the foundation right there, hahn just can't get super greedy cuz the red sox can hit up the rays for archer

hahn deserves blame for the state of the white sox but i also dont think ive seen what kind of GM he can be because hes micro managed by kenny and hindered financially -- its pretty tough to do your job when youre expected to contend every year with no farm system while not getting all the necessary financial support to finance a good mlb team

i honestly think the white sox would be in a different position than they are now if he was allowed the freedom to do his job (which seems to be the case now)

so im very interested to see how he moves

the window for the royals is closed after 2017

i know cain and hosmer are FAs at next seasons end and im pretty sure escobar and moustakas are FAs as well

no way this team can afford to pay all 4 of them and maybe not even not 3

davis just had his option picked up so he will be joining the royals FA party in 2017 so add him to the list

about the only 2 regulars that are guaranteed to be on the team in spring training 2018 are gordon and perez

its been cool KC but back to mediocrity you go with the rest of the a.l central in 12 months

from an espn insider article

The early buzz just after the season ended was that the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers could become sellers this offseason, and they'd listen to offers on all their players, even the stars. Well, now know the early suitors for these stars.

The Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers are positioned well and eager to make a run at the best White Sox and Tigers players. Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski said he would love to land Chris Sale, Justin Verlander or Miguel Cabrera if he can do so without giving up Yoan Moncada or Michael Kopech in strong prospect packages. Meanwhile, the Astros are committed to landing a middle-of-the-lineup bat like Cabrera, and the Dodgers need a right-handed slugger and already have been linked with Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez.

One thing is for sure: All three teams have enough in the prospect department to land one of these impact players this offseason.

astro rumors

The Astros are committed to improving the team enough to put them in position to overtake the Texas Rangers next year, and with Colby Rasmus and Pat Neshek already off the books, they're searching for an impact bat at first base or left field. They have been connected to free-agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion and Miguel Cabrera should the Tigers decide to trade him.

yankee rumors

New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman has already been linked to a number of free agents -- including closers Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen and starting pitcher Rich Hill -- and is open to talking with clubs about a blockbuster trade, but he also is giving rival execs the impression that he wants to hold on to most of his top prospects, which he has worked hard to obtain. It might make sense for the Yankees to consider trading veteran outfielder Brett Gardner to acquire a starting pitcher if they can sign Cespedes to play left. They also might inquire about Edwin Encarnacion, who would give them a power bat they so desperately need to help develop their young hitters. These are some big names being thrown around, which shows the team is ready to add some veteran players to their bevy of future stars and prospects.

dodgers rumors

Getting back to the Dodgers, they'd like to retain third baseman Justin Turner, but not at Pablo Sandoval contract numbers. They'd also like to bring back Rich Hill, but the lefty starter has stated he'd like to return to the East Coast if possible. This will probably be the offseason that Yasiel Puig is finally dealt, and they'll probably part ways with veterans Howie Kendrick and Chase Utley (even though the latter is Andrew Friedman's all-time favorite player). The Dodgers are also committed to either re-signing Jansen or landing Chapman.

cardinal rumors

The Cardinals are going to make an all-out play for center fielder Dexter Fowler, who they'd like to steal from the Cubs a year after the Cubs took both Jason Heyward and John Lackey from them. The Cards would then move Randal Grichuk to left field, where he's better suited defensively. The Cards are going to commit first base to Matt Carpenter, and they hope infield stability will help their defense improve next year after a year in which they had platoons at work all over the field due to injuries.

brave rumors

The Atlanta Braves were so encouraged by their play in the second half that they are hoping to contend before the expected time line. The Braves, who will open their new stadium in April, are committed to adding a proven starting pitcher and an impact defensive catcher this offseason and are a team to watch both in trades and via free agency. They don't like the contract of veteran Yankees catcher Brian McCann or the asking price for free agent Matt Wieters, so they might settle for former Astros catcher Jason Castro or the injured Wilson Ramos.

red sox rumors

The Red Sox feel that Carlos Beltran would be a good fit on a one-year contract, and they'd prefer not to sign another long-term contract with a position player until they can move some of Pablo Sandoval's contract next year. Beltran's switch-hitting ability is important to the Red Sox, as they'd like to replace David Ortiz with a slugger who can hit left-handed. Their primary objectives, however, are adding an elite starting pitcher and upgrading the bullpen.

marlins rumors

The Marlins continue to shop both left fielder Marcell Ozuna and shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria for controllable and inexpensive yet effective starting pitching. The problem is that teams that have that type of pitching either don't want to trade it or don't have a need for those positions. The Marlins know they have the position players to get to the postseason but must somehow find a way to improve their rotation, which took an unfortunate blow with the passing of one of the game's best in Jose Fernandez. This will be an important offseason for the Marlins.

kc should be rebuilding too

and they could retool fairly easily if they decide to trade hosmer, moustakas, cain davis and duffy -- basically trade the entire core -- the best thing would be trade them now since they can get more than they would in july but their owner wont do so as itll kill his ticket sales and marketing -- they managed to pay up for gordon 7 years and perez a raise but that was to keep a contender in tact

not sure if theyd give the big $$$ hosmer/moose/cain/escobar would warrant in the open market

Our GM just gave Puig the vote of confidence. Translation= See Ya.

Also heard Verlander is a target. I don't want him.

Teams are drooling over the possibility that Japanese right-handed pitcher and outfielder/DH Shohei Otani, 22, might be coming to MLB next offseason when he becomes a free agent. The right-hander has a 95-99 mph fastball with a wipeout curve, a slider and splitter. He was 10-4 last year with a 1.87 ERA, and he also has a power bat with 20-25 home run power, which will make him intriguing to National League teams. The Dodgers in particular are interested and have been targeting him for years.

Many analysts are projecting that Otani will end up being the highest-paid Japanese player in baseball history if he decides to come to the States.

theres a possibility this monster will come stateside in 2017

interested to see if this news affects how some teams go about acquiring pitching this offseason

I've been reading about this cat for a minute. This is the type of move theo would be on and the type of starting pitcher the cubs could use a young ace

I read he was most likely gonna be posted winter '17 or 2019 unless somethin changed

there are executives and scouts that say next offseason is a real possibility

same people are saying he could get 300 million since all the big markets will be in on him

the dodgers, red sox and yankees have been linked to him since hs

he wants to pitch and hit so an n.l team might have an advantage

i dont think he would actually DH because teams are so risk averse

they baby pitchers with pitch counts so i dont see any club accepting the extra risk of injury if his stuff is THAT good

a guy like bumgarner is a pretty good hitter and could probably hold his own if given everyday ABs but hes not paid to hit

hes paid to keep other guys from hitting

otani will be the same

we will see what he does next season though because his hitting stats look good in a small sample this year but he hit .202 the year before

I just read an article on mlb.com about otani. He might get posted this offseason cuz the pitching market is weak and he'd immediately become the biggest fa on the market

As a left-handed hitter, he had a slash line of .322/.416/.588 with 22 homers, 67 RBIs and a 1.004 OPS

lol duke aint doin this in mlb, these numbers better than several position players. We'll see what happens dodgers and yankees would have the advantage cuz they have/had japanese players

ckfree this dexter fowlers perspective of game 7 in the players tribune it's a good read

this was my favorite part

At first it just started out with a few guys. But before long everyone was in on it. No one wanted to lose, because it was one of those things like, you lose … you’re out. Next guy steps in for you.

And the crazy thing was, it seemed like each guy had the best Mario Kart races of his life that night. Riz, Tommy Lastella, everyone was at their career-best level. It was impressive.

mario kart was cool unless you were an only child or with one controller

on the low that felt like fowlers goodbye though

one of my favorite things to keep reading or hearing about was that heyward contributed as a leader during the rain delay

even as a viewer watching i was like ok cool i need that lol i still dont know how chapman got out that inning

that rain delay meeting really was kind of like the visit to the mound dusty never took
