keeping the core together and adding pieces is cool but you have to actually be willing to add the pieces -- it was the plan last offseason and instead of spending money they went dumpster diving -- if you arent going to spend money in free agency and dont have a deep or talented farm system to trade from and you arent going to play the international market game like the big boys

whats the point of a 'strong core'

blow

this

wrigley field is located in the hot part of town -- 20 somethings who move to chicago for work or play disproportionately live in the area and adopt the team as part of a social scene -- there are of course some lifelong followers and passionate baseball savvy cubs fans around but i truly believe the majority are social fans who name their dogs wrigley and have no actual clue about whats happening on the ball field most of the time

case in point theos plan

the plan was to lose for a few years and get draft picks and to sell assets to get minor league players -- the plan was to rebuild the worst farm system in baseball and stock it with position players -- once those players were ready to play in the major league the plan was to then buy pitching and start competing -- there were many fans including members of the media who continuously bashed theo for losing and acted like they didnt understand what the plan was -- while the cubs were rebuilding through the draft they constantly called for the cubs to spend money on over 30 players to try and win now

obviously theres more involved but thats a thumbnail

if you look at attendence over the years for decades the white sox and cubs see sawed between who was the biggest draw in town -- its been the last 10-15 years that the cubs have dominated -- theres a lot of factors there -- the cubs/tribune group marketing wrigley as a draw on its own which helped in the (many) years the team was bad -- the cubs being owned by the tribune for many years so you have 2 of the biggest media outlets in the city (tribune and wgn) heavily promoting the cubs -- the white sox threatening to leave the city for tampa which left a bad taste in many fans mouths -- bad luck of a baseball strike right when the 90s white sox team was hitting its peak etc

look at this site.A bunch of tweets of fans or media members doubting theos moves since 2012

one dude was mad the cubs traded cashner for rizzo lol fans wanted the cubs to sign prince fielder and pujols too

and the thing is theo and co have built this thing a lot quicker than some thought they could

they have said publicly time and time again that building long term success is the goal because no matter how dominant a single season team you can build the playoffs are a russian roulette crapshoot

they clearly get it

IF the white sox are gonna sell(I'll believe it when I see trades start happening) then david robertson becomes a real intriguing trade chip cuz chapman and jansen gonna get paid and both probably set records for closers contracts.

Robertson 2 years 25 mil left on his contract. He blew a bunch of saves this year but he would have a lot of value to several teams

the cubs were in the world series and mike montgomery was pitching significant innings

vogelbach WHO

this deal is going to end up looking magical as well

hahn has been quoted as saying fans will know the direction the team is headed in after their 1st or 2nd move

if the white sox do the 'stay competitive while rebuilding' plan i would think a catcher would have to be the first item on the list

i dont really count renteria as being the 1st move as he could manage through either a rebuild or contending team

Indians will be the favorites, royals tryna trim payroll but still contend(if they struggle I could see them selling hosmer, cain, moustakas, davis, herrera)twins might overachieve or still be a year away but they got some nice young talent, tigers want to trim payroll and stop blowin dough(the tigers gonna be like the yankees in a couple more years with those contracts cabrera, verlander, upton, martinez) so the white sox don't HAVE to rebuild but it'll be the smart thing to do.I'm interested to see if they do cuz reinsdorf don't get down like that

the white sox are not in good shape at all

they were not only among the worst in attendance but they had the worst television ratings in baseball

i know white sox fans are a fickle bunch but it seems like theyre taking things to a new level

of course im sure all but a very select few of the fair weather fans have contracted cubs fever so that certainly doesnt help the white sox cause but i really think apathy is starting to reach an all time high

outside of 2005 the white sox havent won a playoff series since 1917 lol

i think the front office is starting to feel it too though

so these winter meetings are gonna be interesting

i cant wait

i let the cubs 108 year curse distract me from the fact that the cleveland indians blew a 3-1 lead in the world series

imagine thinking youll end your 68 year world series drought and then blowing a 3-1 series lead

including 2 at the crib

yikes

Hammel was my 2nd least favorite starting pitcher behind lackey.I had zero confidence when the guy pitched they left him off every playoff roster for a reason.

Not sad AT ALL.I hope the cubs can hit up the rays for cobb or orodizzi

Truthfully, we had no business getting a 3-1 series lead, with all the injuries we had.

White Sox just going to have to blow it up. You have 2 big Chips that can bring you an abundance of prospects Sale and Abreu.

Sale & Quintana would do that.Abreu,Eaton,Cabrera and Robertson could get them solid hauls

When you have a free agent market where jeremy hellickson and jason hammel are the best starting pitchers. It would be foolish not to entertain trading one or both because they're good pitchers on value contracts.Hahn should be hitting the yankeees up and try to get gleyber torres for quintana or hit the red sox(moncada) and dodgers(puig,de leon and urias).Rays should be entertaining trading archer too
