Welcome to hell – both for prognosticators and five teams with legitimate playoff hopes. This is baseball’s deepest division, with five teams capable of winning it – and almost as many that could finish last. We feel random things happening, so hello, White Sox (90 wins). Everyone loves their Todd Frazier acquisition, and the ball should jump off his bat at U.S. Cellular Field. We prefer the possibly unparalleled 1-2 rotation punch of Chris Sale and Jose Quintana, backed by a full season of Carlos Rodon, who struck out 139 batters in 139 1/3 innings as a rookie.

78-84 huh...Lol I'll take that at this point.

i forgot what publication it was, i think SI, i could be wrong though but last year of the 5 a.l playoff teams ZERO of them were projected to make playoffs in their rankings

the best had like 82 wins

similarly with the n.l

of the 5 who did make playoffs i think only 2 were projected to make it

a lot can happen in ST to change the odds

deals

injuries

etc

but im confident there are at least 9 teams with zero chance of a playoff spot

braves

phillies

reds

brewers

rockies

rays

white sox

athletics

mariners

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/1...together-develop-more-protective-pitching-hat

new headwear option for pitchers this year

its gonna be handed out during spring training

This a good look.Cuz the pitchers be vulnerable after their follow through and wit the exit velocity off some these dudes bats they need something to protect their heads. We've already seen several pitchers get seriously injured by line drives to the dome.

it does sound like its going to be resisted by players until mandatory but its a step in the right direction

its on them now

mlb also asking teams to install netting from dugout to dugout around all field level seats and thats a good thing too because even though you should be paying attention that ball do be flying off the bat -- there was a little girl who lost her life at an nhl game before they put netting around the rink at every nhl arena

its better being preemptive you dont want that on your watch

Harper gonna probably get 500 mil.He will just turn 26 when he becomes a free agent

I might be completely ignorant on how it works when you get your first big contract....why did Mike trout sign his extension when he did?! I always thought he took way less than he could've commanded had he waited a year or 2...because I agree Harper gon get somewhere in the 4-500 mil range

It was his 1st year of arbitration eligibility and he got 144 mil which is unheard of.He basically got way more dough than he would of been eligible for because he was so good his 1st 3 seasons that they just signed him long term instead of going to arbitration every year then letting him become a free agent at age 25.Now he'll be a free agent at age 28

OK damn so long term he's definitely gonna get a ridiculous 2nd big deal. I'd try to sign him to a 7 year deal idc about the money cus you'd have him for the entire rest of his prime, then 1 year deals the rest of the way if possible
