Sixteen-year-old Cuban outfielder Lazaro Armenteros held a showcase for scouts on January 8th and “early returns…have been mixed at best,” ESPN.com’s Eric Longenhagen tweets. Several sources described Armenteros as “unable to play center field” and “too muscular & stiff,” though he did receive a very good grade of between 6-7 (based on the scouting grading scale of 2-8) on his running.
Between 150-200 scouts were expected to attend his showcase, and one veteran scout even cited such names as Willie Mays and Bo Jackson to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale last month in terms of comparable power and speed, though the caveat that Armenteros was still quite “young and raw” in his ability. There has been quite a bit of speculation about the phenom known as “Lazarito,” as this was the first time MLB scouts had been able to see him in any sort of baseball activity since the summer of 2014. It isn’t yet known if Lazarito will be cleared to sign with a Major League team during this international signing period or the next (which begins on July 2).

this guy was said to be a 5 tool superstar in his day and had every team gunning for him after destroying the 2008 summer olympics -- mlb scouts and agents were sending him notes after games and arranging meetings at coffee shops with suitcases full of money to try and entice him to leave cuba -- he never did though because he didnt want to risk not being able to see his family but with cuba opening itself up after those diplomatic talks he was given permission to by cuba
he is much older now and from what ive read he hasnt been the same since he got hit in the face twice but id much rather have him out there than avi garcia

i was hearing on the radio this morning that the 'small market' royals have handed out two contracts this off-season larger than the largest contract in white sox history
the white sox are 1 of 5 teams in baseball to have not given a $70m contract
chris sale in the prime of his career on that steph curry discount and the front office sitting idly seemingly refusing to build a serious contender with the avaliable payroll smh abreau and quintana are also on team friendly deals -- honestly with those 3 producing at the levels they are, for the money they receive, the white sox should be at the top of the league
danks and laroche contracts suck (though theyre both on the last year of their deals which frees up 26 mil for next season) which is a burden given the white sox revenue but when you trade youth for frazier and lawrie, you need to add at least one more piece in the OF so that they can reap the value from those trades
there is no honor in finishing .500 and out of the playoffs

there is little interest in the chicagoland area for the white sox
i noticed during my christmas shopping that most stores were stocked with items of the cubs -- there was very little white sox merchandise to choose from at most stores i went to -- the sports authority closest to where i work didnt even have one white sox item for sale
no keychain

no coffee mug
nothing
but the white are known to create some buzz as sox fest approaches though
