i do have an arguement.... Juelz Santana and Foxy are garbage NOW.... But i cant call them completely garbage because i knew what they once was..... I love Jim Jones My Diary of a Summer album but not once has he impressed me lyrically and in G Unit earlier days Tony Yayo use to go in "I've been going hand to hand since the Real Roxanne" but their just not nice now which makes them wack to me...... U can only judge somebody on their last song.... So since none u named have been nice in a very long time then their wack.....

You can only judge a rapper by their last song really?....so if a rapper puts out one wack song they are garbage? Interesting concept

Really? Because Jim Jones' verse on Joell Ortiz's remix to "Beamer Benz or Bentley" was one of the best verses on ANY "BBB" remix. Bottom line is this, geography does not dictate whether a loose group of artists are good, average, or bad... because if that's the case, you will have to come up with individual arguments for every rapper in every region as to why they aren't average.

Fat Joe sounds pretty good to me...people just let 50 cent get into their heads again

Oh no lol don't go putting Fat Joe in the same "It's 50's fault" category as Ja Rule. Look at Joey in the 90's and look at Joey now and there is a drastic difference in the style and flow. Content? Meh, somewhat but Fat Joe is a bandwagon rapper.

This thread is inspired by a couple of posts I've seen. Let's put it out there so that in the future, when people start talking their shit, we can look back here and say "Oh, he's just saying that because he thinks he's better than people down South."

As a TRUE Hip Hop purist, it's important to understand EVERYONE'S point of view. Everything that has an appeal, has an appeal for a reason. People that you think are dumb don't look at you and wonder why you listen to (insertsuperlyricalorbattlerapper), so why is it so hard for you to understand why they like who they like? Whether it be Webbie, Lil Boosie, Waka Flocka, Lil B, Wiz Khalifa, Travis Porter, etc., they make music that somebody somewhere likes for some reason. It may be content, it may be geographical, it may be anything. You don't have to like it, but at the very least, understand it.

So, tell the truth... do you think you're smarter than the average Southerner? Admit your bias.

I'm from the south, and I hate when niggas say southern rappers are not lyrical...look at the niggas you named...where is Scarface, Bun B., 3000. Cee-Lo, Killer Mike? y'all niggas are lame, name me 10 rappers fucking with 3000, or Scarface. And what's your average southerner?

This thread is the reason why I want to Japslap the shit out a "NY Rap Fan"/ Backpacker.

1. They don't even listen to the music they hate...not even one song. They hear it in some kids car that used to/reminds them of the kid that beat the dog shit outta them and are like "that music is stuid"
2. They swear that New York Rap is dope. I live here. Point me to the hotbed of hiphop talent because I havent seen it. Not at fucking all.
3. Are niggas calling Bun B average. That just points how stupid you are as a rap fan.

These niggas got the nerve to call southern niggas dumb but they out chea listening to lupe and swearing that jay z is in the illuminati. fuck out my face.

And yes I do work all the way downtown. Where you niggas can't even go. And bitch I'm from the south.

My nigga as an objective dude i gotta say that Bun B ain't lyrical. He might've spat some game on them old UGK albums but he's not really a lyricist per se. I mean rhyming trill, woodgrain, candypaint and stuff like that in every song doesn't make you lyrical. But Bun is still a legend.

The rest of 'em i agree. Tho i wouldn't say that Killer Mike is THAT lyrical he's still an all around dope MC. Now Face, 3K, Cee-Lo, Jay-E etc are dope lyricist.

I am from the south and niggas do absorb music differently than they do on the east coast. It's a car culture and open space down here, so these mfs like that club and car system music, they wanna shake their asses and nod their heads. As oppose to the east coast, it's confined space so music is listened to over headphones with less emphasis paced on bass and what not, that's why minimalist beats (Premo,Pete Rock, etc) are prefered and lyricism takes precedent.

Co Sign this 100%, I live down south but stayed in NY for like 4 summers. I like both places but like dude said above me nobody even had a car in NY. You listen to your headphones on the subway and while you are walking around. Most people Down South only use headphones at the gym or something. When you have on headphones you listen a little harder and that is probably why lyrics are more important, but down south you driving and got stuff going on so it is hard to get lost in a story telling song while driving and peeping your surroundings. I know when ever I listen to Nas in the ride I have to keep going back on the same song cause my mind will get away from the lyrics.

to keep it real ...the answer is "yes, but " (talking bout southern rappers)

If you talk to people that has been around when the east was on top ,they ll tell you that the souith dumbed it down...listen to the radio ,go to clubs most of the songs are just like that

i simply hate this certain type of music from gucci to s. boy ,when i hear them i really miss hammer They re really stupid but hard working rappers that never should have done music

Then comes the but ...the south brought us ugk,scarface,outkast,z-ro ... thats why everyday i try to forgive them for today´s trash music

I think it's unfair to say southern rappers have done this or that. I think the responsibility falls on the record labels who bastardized Hip Hop to simply be about flash and image. Then, I think the responsibility falls on the fans from all regions who brought into the record labels brand of Hip Hop. My first exposure to Hip Hop artists from the south was Ghetto Boys (I'm from NY) and frankly I didn't care about where they were from, they made good Music. Then, there was a huge gap. My guess is that other artists from the south didn't fit the bill because, Hip Hop during that time was about creativity, lyricism and pushing the music the forward. It wasn't until Goodie Mobb, Kast and MG and Eight Ball came on the scene that I began to listen to artists from the south again. Although, their were artists making Music in the south, Goodie and Kast excluded (in my opinion of course) just weren't on par with artists from north. These groups were pushing the music forward. Dungeon Fam with their production, and then the groups themselves with their talent. To say that the southern artists of today are on par with Goodie, and Kast is, a fallacy. Now it's the record labels driving the sound and image of the artists and southern artists for the most part fell in line instead of pushing the envelope. I also, think that with the other elements of Hip Hop i.e breaking, Graph, and DJing not making an impact on south, the totality of Hip Hop wasn't fully realized.

Why is this argument always about NY vs the entire South? Its not even a fair comparison. I know New Yorkers have a high opinion of themselves, but cotdamn.

There's nothing about living in NY that automatically makes you better than anybody else. Especially when NY does as much to promote garbage rappers as any other region.

Name 10 emcees from NY who are dope and I'll name 10 from down south who will lyrically rap circles around them.

So naw, I dont think Southern rappers and fans are dumber than any other region. Stupidity doesnt discriminate.

I'm just curious. How about you name 10 MC's from NY then, top that list with 10 MC's from the south?
