but you know what, here's the important point:

its easy to find all those verses where God says "kill all these people, kill their children, and then kill these people, and then stone these other people to death, and then kill...."

Christians believe that Jesus is God. The same God that gave those disgusting commands.

You're cool with worshiping a sick fuck like that? For real?

God was much more of an aggressor in those times, something that surprised me when i first realized it, they dont teach u that in sunday school. i mean he wiped out everyone wit the flood except the few that were worthy enough. it seems tho that shit was worse back then. like the story of da sodom and gemorrah (sp) where the angels came to meet with Lot before God destroyed the city n the bible states all the men young and old of sodom tried to have sex with the angels, knowing they were sent from God. i mean it does sound ruthless, but if they are that evil, they suffer the consequences. as for the children...i read up on this site that gave me good insight to this argument

http://www.answersingenesis.org/home/area/feedback/2007/0216.asp

heres a segment from it:
God is often attacked for killing “all the innocent people and even children” in the Flood. But judging Scripture by Scripture, we read that no one is truly innocent (Romans 3:23) and all will die eventually anyway—a repercussion of our own actions (1 Corinthians 15:22; Romans 6:23). Second, let’s see what brought such a judgment on the people before the Flood:

Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually (Genesis 6:5).

What a strong statement! Every intention and thought was evil all the time. Imagine the murders, rapes, thefts, child sacrifices, cannibalism, and so on. This was happening continually. Yet this was about 120 years (maximum) before the Flood (Genesis 6:3). So God was still patient, allowing time for repentance and change (1 Peter 3:20). God even called Noah to be a preacher of righteousness (2 Peter 2:5), yet people still refused to listen and continued to murder, rape, and so on.

before the flood the ppl were warned, didnt listen....u suffer the consequences. noah and his ppl, who were ppl of God did not suffer these consequences, because they believed and followed in God's word.

Exactly. Additionally, nowhere on the linked page does it say the punishments for breaking the laws/rules of the Old Testament (in this case, adultery) are no longer valid. And since the laws/rules of the Old Testament are acknowledged in the New Testament (such as how Jesus acknowledges adultery on multiple occasions), the mere existence of the New Testament doesn't abolish the laws/rules of the Old Testament.

So, using one's brain, it is quite easy to conclude that things written as "true" in the Christian bible--that are neither challenged nor refuted in the Christian bible--would still be considered "true" in the Christian bible.

well do ur thang then son. if thats how u feel. i beg to differ tho. it is a sin to commit adultery, a sin to lust, and a sin to kill. thats how i see it, guess we agree to disagree then.

you're finding excuses for mass murder

i'm disturbed by that level of devotion to a dictator

not finding excuses. read it, and agree or disagree. if i believe my God is the creator he has the right to do what he will do. who am i to question his will? God is good and God is just.

like i said, it sounds harsh, but he gives a choice between suffering or paradise, warns us even after we go so long sinning against him. if u lived by his will, u would not have to suffer in such a way.

dont know what else to tell u, if u feel that is a good enough reason not to obey then so be it but God promises so much more good than the pain we will receive in rebelling.

and in addition to this post, regarding the flood, the bible specifically states that God saw no good in these people and were willfully sinful continually.....therefore they werent innocent.

christians still think being gay is a sin, right?

but theres no mention of that in the NT.

the rules about gays are in the OT.

right?

Read the whole chapter of Romans 1.

It doesn't necessarily said it's a "sin" but how it's unnatural.

"Might makes right" but on a cosmic scale.

I think that's disgusting and you're a piece of shit for trying to justify it.

It amazes me how willing people are to believe in something that's been handed down 1000's of times. The bible is one of the most prejudiced hateful books out there, yet people get there morals from religion? Really? Do we in the west still stone women we find out they aren't pure? Gays? You all do know that according to the biblle since we are descedants of Ham slavery was jusitified? As an atheist my moralcompass is alot better than some christians. I f you want to love the teachings of a 1000 yera old prohet more than yourself, fam and friends go ahead, but I don't have to take that shit seriously.

Do you go into the pro-religion threads and bother saying this?

Nope.

Only time you ask people to chill is when atheists are talking and making points.
