All bullshit aside, one the main problems in the black community is a severe lack of economic empowerment in our own establishments. So, I took to the streets yesterday with a flyer to try to help the cause. My hope is by the end of the week, I can hit up every Black Owned business in Crown Heights to raise this awareness.

The gym down the street from my apt.

WOW! Props @"Mister B." You're doing the same thing I'm doing! Holler at me if you want to build for real. I have a program that I'm building (It's currently called Unity In Motion but I'm changing the name). Brief description:

Unity in Motion is a collective of individuals, businesses and organizations who invest and wisely utilize each others resources, to organize, orchestrate, build, and create community services and recreational events, and to build sustainable businesses, community service organizations and public education programs that address and service the immediate and long term needs of the community.

My approach is the same as yours by just hitting up all the Black owned businesses starting in my neighborhood/city and expanding.

These are some of the things we're building:

This is the Non-Profit Body

A few of these programs are already in motion now...

This is the Co-op (for profit) body

The grocery store is first on this list. I think transportation and textile businesses would go well in this model as well.

We also plan to build a computer science program for free coding and graphic design classes for all ages; a sports and rec program/league; and natural resources and energy programs.

Let's build.

I like it. Like the Unity in Motion name too

In cities were there are a lot of murders like Chicago I believe the best option is to vote in 3rd party candidates like the Green party, the Tea party or the Liberterian Party. Anything other than the Democrats. Because I honestly believe that the drug dealers are lining the pockets of some of them politicians, they're choosing to look the other way because they know that dealing drugs is a way for their poor residents to get money and/or they're lives and the lives of their families are being threaten by drug dealers.

i have two things to say about this...

why are the dealer's allowed to control the community and why are we limiting our vision.

for most of us that made it out we have family that's still back in the hood.

one of the biggest problems is our limited way of thinking because of the sphere of influence.

case an point...what can a doctor say to convince a poor youth to become a doctor?

you need to go to school college and more school after college. and if you don't get scholarships or grants you are in debt and still can't live but so good until you pay that off.

but...the local dealer is looking clean AF the next week after starting.

now you parent is out working 2-3 jobs an still telling you to go to school but they can't buy those things you want and ration the food...how many kids will be patient?

then to walk outside and see killings by your own as well as by police..... what do you say to a child?

even when you compare the lives of those who are successful...both dealers and business/corporate successful people...both have big screen TVs , cars and nice houses and some travel.

what do you honestly say to make them want more?

mentorship at early levels is what's needed to get into the mind and guide their mindframe. alot of parents are trying to provide and too tired to guide because them themselves may not know.
