NYC isnt a region, I wouldn't compare a city to an entire region.

The South is winning right now hands down.

YMCMB is running the game and murdering the charts and then you have MMG making power moves.

After 50-Cent got on NY slowly crumbled but now that his career has been ended I think NY can make a comeback.

I'll give you Ross and Wayne from each group, but...

MMG: No one is making real moves without Ross... And Meek and Wale are from Philly and DC, respectively

YM: Drake is from Canada, Jae Millz, Cory Gunz and Nicki are from NY (who's "losing" right now), Tyga is from Cali, and he's not even a factor... the rest of them are nonfactors... Mack is gettin money, but he's president or some shit

I'll even give you Brick Squad, but OJ and Gucci are MIA, and Waka's buzz is fading

Every other southern artist is sporadic, has one hit, and doesn't sell any albums (that Racks on Racks guy)

The east coast is still the most consistent sales and chart wise (Nicki, Jay, Wiz, and based on the knowledge ustreet_monsta dropped, Ross apparently)

Of corse they cater to whites because whites are the main consumers of the music....Baby and Slim didn't name thier label Cash Money for no reason.

Mainstream HipHop has to be marketed towards the buying demographic so the labels can get maximum profit and if you can incorporate filthy elements of self-destruction then it's an added bonus.

I like the MMG movement because they seem to be free from the POP-tart syndrome and they make music for the people and the streets instead of the cookie-cutter shit that you hear on a Lupe, Wiz, B.O.B, Drake, Wayne, Kanye, Nicki album were you hear songs that you know are marketed towards the PoP crowd.

As long as HipHop is a business you can't expect mainstream HipHop to be rebellious, street, or provide edutainment.

and thats what i respect about them is they have not watered down their music for a pop artist. At the begninning i laughed at the whole triple c movement. But listening to meek mill and especally listening to a few gunplay tracks that impressed me recently i have grown to like MMG which i never tohught i would.

and its funny because Jacksonville is more "southern" like than miami.....been to both cities and jacksonvillie feels like southern georgia (which it is called by some people)

Thats cuz Jacksonville is a historically southern city going back to before the Civil War.

Miami wasnt even founded until the late 1890s and people didnt really move there until NY and NJ gangsters moved down there to open casinos in the 1920s.

Shit is on the East Coast and was built by Jews and Cubans.

i will say though jae and corey are non factors though because they fall victim to the NYC played out gunplay rap which is getting them nowhere. And tygas buzz from his mixtapes and deuces is reunning out of steam too.

Also corey took some L's after that reality show because he exposed himself as a bitch made nigga. Dude could have even scripted that show to make him look G but he failed to do that.

B.O.B went Gold last year
Ross went Gold last year
Ludacris went Gold last year
LiL Wayne went Gold with two separate albums last year

Nobody from the East went Gold or Platinum in 2010, unless you want to count the plastic-barbie chick that does the pop-rap.

The East-Coast is not even relevant on the charts, Ace Hood, DJ Khaled, have hit singles in rotation and on the charts, Jeezy is on the charts, it's going to be another winning year for the South.

Good points... I'll give you BOB, and I already gave you Wayne and Ross, oh, and to help you out, TI went gold too. But Luda is bound to go gold. Em and Ye went platium, and Nelly had hits on the charts last year too. If Jay dropped in '10 he would've went platinum. Those guys are vets, theyre always gonna do numbers. We all know Ace and Khaled are gonna eat off those one hits, and their albums are gonna fade into obscurity. Outside of Teflon Don, which of those albums were talked about or played weeks after their release date? BP3 and Pink Friday may have been wack as fuck, but they lasted for a while at least. We're talking CONSISTENCY. The south may be doing better than the east, I'll give you that, but a white boy sold more than all of them put together. Who's really winning?

okay but seperate that and you have pretty much 2 cities atlanta and miami. Yes wayne is from new orleans but his new music does not have the soul of that city in it anymore. Thats not the south getting 2 wins and allot of losses. Memphis, Meridian, Montgomery, Little Rock, Raliegh, Orlando, Dallas, Houston, San Antionio did not have anything popping in 2010 which is my point. Thats like a football team going 2 -11 during a season that is a loosing season. Yes New York only had 1 hit and the rest of the East bombed same with midwest cities etc. But 2 major cities having some artists going gold or better and the rest of the cities having virtually nobody relevant is a loss.

Also when cities like dallas, houston, orlando, raleigh , and memphis are big cities economically for aspiring black people trying to have a better life but you cant find any succesful hip hop there.

I'm not convinced that Florida is in the South music wise. The I-95 runs through Miami and it's a city built by and frequented by NY, Jersey, and Philly cats. Yeah they have a southern bounce and strip club culture down there, but the modern music scene is also heavily influenced by NYC.

Ross seems more comfortable on a track with Fat Joe, Raekwon, or Kool G Rap than he does with Luke.

Lol Please stop. Stupid NYers can't claim their own state because of it's irrelevancy so they try to claim ours by saying it's not a southern state.

And yeah the South is running shit with Fla at the forefront.

Ace Hood had a hit single this year.

Ross is arguably running the rap game. I stay in NY right now and everywhere I go I hear niggas bumping Rick Ross. They don't even play NY rap here anymore lmao.

Niggas is making South Beach references everywhere in they lyrics and with the Miami Heat running basketball it's clear who's running shit now.

first off ace hood HAD a single but it was carried by the remix version features not him

then because of his lack of innovation he rewrote the same song for his second single WITHOUT features and it flopped

then there was a remix to go n get it and it was the alleged diss lines that outshined the lame same old cliche ace hood rapping.

Big sean is outselling the entire state of miami right now major release wise...........

and guess where the 2 major heat players are from.....ill give you a hint its not from the south and last time i checked lebron is tied with me for number of champion ship rings. Your town also got embarassed when...DJ Khaled missed a finals game to do a show in Hartford and then Baby and Wayne being "heat fans" suddenly partying with dirk after.

And by the way do you see any NYC IC posters have a avitar that says I hate (insert western southern or midwest city here) that just goes to show you how pitifull your hate for new york is even dispite the fact they dont got many big named rappers right now. You mad lol.

Lmao...Dumbass...They barely even play the remix on the radio it's mostly the original they play.

Ok...No one has an album out right now in MIA.

Who gives a fuck where they're from? All that matters is the fact that they're playing on our team. Dumbass lmao. How didi we get embarrased? So what? And what's your team btw? If it's not the Mavericks then I'm afraid you can't really talk shit about us. Our first year together with an incomplete roster and we were 2 games away from winning the title. I think you should be afraid of the dynasty that's about to come next season.

And Wayne isn't even a Heat fan. He's a Hornets fan.

And lol New York is full of a bunch of subway rats who talk shit about every other state so right now I'm just returning the favor.

the heat got embarassed because they thought they had the devine right to the title after game 1...kinda like how nyc rappers think they hot just cause they from nyc. Also yeah it does matter where they from because it proves florida isnt a huge basket ball hub. If where lebron and wades place of birth dont matter than why does it matter if the flop rappers you mentioned from from florida? But miami is a "football town" but hows your teams doing? The dophins bout to flop without a legit QB and the U looks pitifull as hell recently compaired to their past teams. So yall lost at the sport that yall huge on too.

You said nobody from miami released yet lol excatly how can you win when you don't even have any releases? Check the charts go n get it aint even charted in the top 50 hip hop R&b songs. Watch the ace hood album get under 400K next week. BTW you were wrong about nobody releasin from miami cause khaled flopped at 50K first week.

Lol I still don't see how we got embarrased when we made the finals in our first year. And don't compare NY rappers to the Heat because the Heat are still relevant. And you still didn't answer my question. Who's your team?

And since NY is the "Mecca" what B ball players have come from NY in recently?

Lol it matters because B Ball players don't rep where they're from like rappers do dumbass. You don't get signed to the team where your from.

The Dolphins are fine. Reggie Bush is going to make sure of that.

You win by having the number one rap song in the country that's how. You win by having Rick Ross who is arguably one of the hottest rappers out right now on your side.

Watch the ace hood album get under 400K next week. BTW you were wrong about nobody releasin from miami cause khaled flopped at 50K first week.

Lmao Khaled isn't a rapper dumbass. His album has various other artists on it.

this debate isnt about new york i said at the begnning new york fell off this is about every other region. Its funny how you keep pointing out new york. The south does not have the best song in the country drake does. Drakes hook was the saving grace on that joint. Doesn't matter how great the verses are that hook make it popular. I am a 76ers fan but a loyal dedicated one. Your city fliip flops on being a basketball fan depending on whos on the court and leaves games early to beat traffic its a joke. The point is you cannot name me one city that as compltely taken over hip hop this year. Because all miami got is ross. And all every other city in the country got is maybe 1 guy who is decent there arent 5 or 6 big stars from 1 single city in the country which is my point every city loss and every region loss.

And this is important, cuz dudes is sayin the south is running the game, and NY fell off. We don't claim Philly or DC, we don't take credit for Wiz's success. Chicago don't claim Big Sean, and as far as the West is concerned, the only state relevant is California. Why do south cats take a rapper from a certain state's success as an accomplishment of the whole coast? BOB, Wayne, and Ross are miles apart, but leave it up to the south, they all live in the same house.

I'm from DC kid. You got NY on the brain.

Nobody said Florida wasnt a Southern state. Thats where it is geographically.

interstate_95_florida_map.gif

I'm a speak slow for the short bus shorties: The city of Miami is on the East Coast. I-95 runs through it and the people who live there are mostly Northern transplants from NY and NJ. Miami was never a Confederate city. They never had slaves in Miami so it's not really a southern city like New Orleans or Richmond or Atlanta. If you think Miami is in the Souf because of where it is on a map, then so is LA and Phoenix.
