We don't need facts and supporting details all you gotta do is turn on the radio, or t.v., go to the club or some shit, go socialize with some human beings in the real world, listen to rappers new mixtapes see what region the music sounds like, look who the top rappers are, not the top promoted rappers like Big Sean, Wiz, Odd Future, Kreayshawn, Lil B, and all that shit, the top rappers that your favorite rappers prefer to listen to and try to sound like, How is the industry in a state of emergency? Because the east coast ain't on top no more? Or because everybody ain't imitating the east coast sound? Or because a new generation of kids have grown up and hip hop has changed and still changing all the way around and the majority of the people on the internet haven't accepted it yet or will not accept it? There is no one city that is "on top", it's a whole region and it's called the south. lol how does big sean sound like the "south"? and lil b and kreyshwan are not southern rappers. Drake doesn't sound like hes from the south either. Wayne...you would hardly know he was from the south because he has a lame pop sound right now. The top rappers in the game don't sound like they are from the south they sound popish to appeal to the only crowd that buys albums.

I fucked with hella southern music in my middle school and high school days from TIP, David Banner, Lil Flip, Dro, Jeezy, etc. Modern popular rap doesn't sound like the south.

Hip Hop in general is losing. Like only 4 people went platinum last year, and from what I know, Wiz is the only one with a plaque THIS year. The last region that was dominant was the south, with Florida at the forefront. I remember the XXL cover with Khlaed, Ross, Trina, and Flo Rida. Except Ross, everyone has since fallen off (Khaled's still here off the strength of dickriding). But no matter what people say, no one has had a run like NY. Too many albums to name right now.

the bolded is the point i was trying to make with this thread the sales are down the buzz is down and only a few artists can even get plat now. And even wiz is touring the country in front of crowds of only 5K and not 20K. The other interesting thing about rappers from florida is they have been able to adapt a little bit to the turn to the mainstream music going more pop than hip hop. Pitbull has had a hit this year with ne-yo i think it was and that stayed on the charts if its still not on there. Also flo rida while quiet now just last year had a pop sound that was selling.

I'm not convinced that Florida is in the South music wise. The I-95 runs through Miami and it's a city built by and frequented by NY, Jersey, and Philly cats. Yeah they have a southern bounce and strip club culture down there, but the modern music scene is also heavily influenced by NYC.

Ross seems more comfortable on a track with Fat Joe, Raekwon, or Kool G Rap than he does with Luke.

Their music is constructed to appeal to a WHITE pop top 40 crowd so they are not even representing the south. How to love does not sound like a southern hip hop track at all. Nicki calls herself a barbie. A barbie is white blond hair blue eyed doll that is fake and is not strong or indipendent. And that is being portrayed to black females through nicki to become white and plastic.

I like MMG but the reason they are regionally hot sales and reception wise. Why? Because they stay true to themselves but it has hurt their growth and popularity. Same thing with big KRIT he is himself and real in his music but gets punished for sounding authenticly southern. I love southern hip hop at its best but nobody is the mainstream is catching the line. Hip hop in general is loosing because you have to sound pop top 40 to be successful.

Of corse they cater to whites because whites are the main consumers of the music....Baby and Slim didn't name thier label Cash Money for no reason.

Mainstream HipHop has to be marketed towards the buying demographic so the labels can get maximum profit and if you can incorporate filthy elements of self-destruction then it's an added bonus.

I like the MMG movement because they seem to be free from the POP-tart syndrome and they make music for the people and the streets instead of the cookie-cutter shit that you hear on a Lupe, Wiz, B.O.B, Drake, Wayne, Kanye, Nicki album were you hear songs that you know are marketed towards the PoP crowd.

As long as HipHop is a business you can't expect mainstream HipHop to be rebellious, street, or provide edutainment.
