yea absolutly they should support home grown artists. but that artists should atleast be grinding and putting out a few mixtapes. you just dont wanna give any nigga who recorded a mixtape in their basement any radio play

I don't agree with his reasoning behind the shit they play but I do understand. As far as him saying earn a spot LMFAOOOOOO. Niggas like curren$y been making great music for years he hasn't "earned a spot"? Fact is you need a hit or to be on a big label. None of this really matters though because the radio is outdated and the internet runs shit now. Most of those artists that have radio hits but haven't built up a fan base and don't sell shit anyways. As long as we(the consumer) keep supporting niggas like kendrick lamar, j.cole, wale(well the old wale), nas etc. and keep going to shows that dudes like joey bada$$, big krit, etc. put on we'll be good.

That nigga Ebro is a Ego Maniac, the music business is a business, it is what it is regardless if its right or wrong the White folk @ their parent company Emmis Communications aint putting that underground hip hop into regular rotation because it dont make cents.

I don't agree with it but niggas are not using common sense when it comes to radio. Radio, TV & blogs are all about ratings/views. That's how they survive thanx to all the commercials & sponsors. If an artist like Sean Price, who am i a fan of, doesn't track well with people out there (get people talking, record sales, solid-big fanbase already etc) that's gonna gurantee more ratings for the station then why should they play it?

If they played nothing but Immortal Technique music we wouldn't have these radio station at all. Maybe you dumb niggas should stop giving radio/tv/blogs so much attention and relevance by caring so much and clicking/watching/listening to them give more attention to WHAT YOU LIKE and we'll get somewhere.

The reasoning is absurd from a music stand point. A DJ should be free to play what he or she likes. Then the people decide if, it's something they want to hear more of. From a business perspective it makes sense. These clowns only want to deal with folks who are going to offer them perks or payola.

I couldn't disagree with what dude said. I think some of these guys need to start investing more money into promo. It's true the less talented cats have the most play in the air, but the smarter more business savy cats are around them putting money into what counts. These underground cats gotta start getting the right people behind them. It's probably a few guys out there who wouldn't mind investing in some of these underground cats. It's not the music either y'all because this is the most open generation of hip hop fans ever. Niggas just gotta break that bread.

I dont listen to the radio and if I did it wouldnt be hot97.

Power 105 >>>>

Another thing: do they even play ASAP?

Agreed. Only saving grace for that station is Mr. Cee's The Finisher Hour. And yeah, I heard Fuckin Problem the other day. And they played Peso a few times when it was out.

But even if a DJ played what he liked people would complain then too since everybody has a difference taste and opinion of what good music is supposed to sound like. There is no right or wrong. You might consider Young Money to be trash but what makes your opinion valid? The next guy might think Immortal Technique brings the best music to the table, how is he right?

The DJ's on it are hired at radio stations, so there's no way you can look at it from a music stand point. It's always been and gonna be from a business stand point when you talk DJ's hired on major stations. Like i said people should stop giving radio station so much attention and power if they really want a change

Try telling these assclowns to play a Biggie record in 92, or a 50 Cent record in 2000. Yeah yeah, business and advertising and ratings and all that, but they act like the music is any less better if it doesn't have a machine behind it. Leave it up to them back in the early 80s, hip hop wouldn't have existed cuz LL Cool J and Run DMC weren't popular enough.

completely disagree

basically all i got from that was, get another big station to play your shit, then we'll play your music

Why not help to break artists and put them on ?

These artist have to realize if they don't have a machine behind them, they have to build one. That's what russle simmons did back in the 80s with ll and run dmc.

Wrong my dude. You know why they got play? Cuz they were popular or made something popular AMONGST THEIR SURROUNDING. In 2000 50 was already somewhat known for "How To Rob", him getting shot and also being around JMJ and almost being apart of "The Firm" and rolling around with Onyx. Biggie in 1992? Was already backed big Puff who worked for Uptown and both Biggie and Puff were big on "street teams" so they were already backed/extorted by street dudes who helped them. Same thing with LL & Russell. Run DMC got on thru Russell. Without Russell we wouldn't have Run DMC.

But the radio at least had a bigger hand back then. Street promo is one thing, but at least radio got you a decent buzz. Now it's like they want you to win a VMA before they give you a chance.

DO whatever pay the bills.

Also long as you get some play then thats good, build on it and make the main show.

Lastly...no one cares about radio

damn right they should play underground rappers music.theres alot of talent there.people bitch about they are tired of hearing the same music on the radio then play some different
