Hip Hop Culture is a Jamaican-African American-Puerto Rican fusion...Dominicans had nothing to do with it....That's why I say you should have a higher degree of respect and there is no reason for anyone to envy you. the dominican communities that came about in nyc came after puerto-ricans yes, but they did indeed prosper without and in alot of cases in spite of pr and blacks attitudes towards them. alot of em went from being treated like people treat modern mexicans to actual prosperous business owners
u'll see more dominican owned stores in the hood than you will black owned or puertorican (not combined obviously) and of course i'm only speaking about nyc as you mentioned.
hell they even have more significance in the illegal side of the fence than blacks or puertoricans now too (of this fact i'm actually ashamed, but since we are talking about gaining a foothold and making it in this country i mention all means)
