Earn it. This is a democracy. Not saying racism doesn't exist, but not all white people are out to get you, and it's definitely not as bad as it used to be. If you feel you're being victimized, you're free to move out of the city, out of state, out of the country, whatever.

And on the topic of Argentina, I didn't say they were black, just that the different races are more accepting of one another. There's a decent amount of black people there though..

Nope not true, Argentina have been one of the most racist countries in Latin America in regards to how they treat their small African minority.

I don't think I'm wrong, but if I am, show me. I know there are some countries in Central and South America that are more tolerant. In Peru they government issued a public apology to black people for their unfair treatment.

Yep and so is African American culture, both have strong African influences, from the food to the ideals. New Orleans is an example of a city that has managed to hold on to various ideals of the Africans brought to the place. What i'm trying to say is that both Afro Lationos and African Americans have lost a lot of their orginal culture, the guy i responsed is trying to act like thats something exclusive to just African Americans and not Africans brought to the Diaspora in general.

you are very wrong. the guy you were responding to is saying that every modern race and culture has a diverse history and many roots.

the roots shoot off in every direction but in the end it leads to 1 place.

obviously this place is different for each racial group but to act like 1 fucking root is more important and somehow dominant over the others is stupidity

look up race as it is defined in modern terms. geography and origin play a big part.

ever wonder why mulattos look like fake ass hispanics? cuz they only have 2/3rds of a hispanic make up. (much more in modern terms because globally communities have mixed more than possible in the past.)

my point about lack of culture stems from the fact that most african americans posting in this thread seem to cling to skin color to define their identities.

an african american will say i'm "black" whereas most other people identify their race by country.

u have to realize u keeping that racism shit going by feeding into shit and staying in the groups some europeans placed u in x amount of years ago

That's fine, but why the annoyance with someone who doesn't make that a part of their everyday life? With the criticism that some AA's launch at blacks from countries not the United States you'd think that being a black American is the end all, be all definition of being black...it's interesting that for as much as some black americans claim to hate America and it's ideals, the very things that many identify themselves by are distinctly American...not African influenced but American...yet in their minds if you're not black American somehow you're "less black"...shit I can remember some years back on the IC when PR rapper Tego Calerdon was on an MTV special and showed him hometown in PR and you had niggas on the IC going "Damn, there's Ricans that look like normal black people"...like what hte fuck is a normal black person?

this post is speaking alot of truth and part of the main reason this thread got derailed

I see your point on race, but even when people embrace their culture pertaining specifically to their country that pride can lead to & has throughout history led to negative nationalism.

While the word Black may bot be the ideal word used to describe people of African descent, its used as a word to describe all peoples with an African heritage in a way many use it as a way to bind us together. When you ask a Nigerian man what he is he would probably mention the name of his ethnic group(Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo) first, then the fact that his Nigerian second, however he would never deny that he is black as thats obvious from looking at him, in this thread we've seen some of you outright deny this fact,as well as reacted negatively to a poster like Gee calling you African.

Yeah yeah the same can be said for African Americans and peoples from Carribean countries like Jamaica. Hip-Hop, Soul, and all of the other genres can be linked to Africa in some way, i may have exaggerated but the premise of my argument is true, every African in the diaspora has somewhat lost bits of their culture.Don't sit here trying to act as if your more cultured than your fellow African American brother cause you speak Spanish and African Americans speak English, especially when some of you are blind to see the African influence on your culture, its also quite striking that a people with a lack of culture could produce more activists in line with their culture than you, in conferences in Unesco you had African Americans fighting to rewrite the false history perpetrated on them by European scholars, when Europeans were shitting on Africans on the continent, you had people like Malcolm x , John Henrik Clarke, Dr Ben promoting Pan-African ideals, before that the likes of Marcus Garvey and W.E.B Du Bois, where were your leaders when all this was happening, for a peoples with little culture African Americans sure have produced a lot of brothers who are less oblivious to their original cultures.

u make some good points here. but u are forgetting that influence doesn't equate to dominance.

yeah just like our language was influenced by spain, some of our music and dances are influenced by africans.

there is no denying that.

its like baking a cake, u put eggs into a fuckin cake, but you can't call cake eggs now can you?

as i stated before i'm not pretending to be more cultured than the next man, i'm instead embracing MY culture and asking that ya'll do the same.

u guys act like we should go back as far as the slave trade for roots and stop when we get to the part about africa. ignore all the rest

we acknowledge the pieces but refuse to place any dominance of 1 small piece over the whole of our racial make up

truer words have never been spoken.
shit a dominican knows this fact as much as anyone. look up the conflict between hatians and dominicans and u'd see shit has gotten pretty intense.

tying the shit back to the original poll of the thread though, i ask again.....
How can so many votes be against a latino saying "nigga" when u have bout 4-5 people here arguing about how we have to claim being black but still not use the word?

Yeah you should definitely embrace the culture of the Spanish masters who raped your ancestors.

No i think the argument is that you shouldn't use the word because many of you are more in line with the Spanish blood thats inside of you.

True also. My mother's family is Black & Louisiana Creole. My Father's Afro-Colombian. When asked I say I'm black, but people always think I'm mixed(Sammy Sosa before bleaching complexion)& say "they knew it b/c I got that good hair".

charlize theron is a person of african descent.
this is why i'm saying skin color is outdated and a dumb reason to separate people based on just that
it is what people are doing in this thread, ironically placing themselves in the same groupings europeans placed em in hundreds of years ago

are you embracing the culture of the english masters who raped your ancestors by typing in english on a website run by an american, while living in a country they founded?

remember africans were forced on the natives just as much as europeans were.

lol so should we hate them for the language and u guys for the darker skin tones?

i'm a medium tan and my sister is dark, should i hate her because our skin tones are different?
does that make her an "afro latino" and me just a "latino"

look how dumb that fucking logic is. then tell me again if an intelligent person should follow it

it doesnt make her any less african.

hell if u are in america chances are you are the descendant of someone who was too weak to survive. does that make u any less an african descendant?

Nope i'm not, those things are out of my control, i grew up and was born in an English speaking country and if you have did research on Language Acquisition you would know that me speaking English is something that is inevitable, i've heard many a white person use that argument before but it makes no sense whatsoever. Also I never told you to hate your sister, i don't know what part of my post makes you think that, stop trying to misconstrue my original points.
