If you do your research, there's quite a few people that made so-called "Rock N Roll" prior to Elvis and even prior to Chuck Berry, Lil Richard, etc.But most of those guys are one hit wonders. IMO you can't call a one hit wonder the originator or "king" of anything.

Ray Charles was there from day one and had a nice, long lasting career with dozens, if not scores of albums. One album in particular I like was arranged by Quincy Jones and was released in 1961
