Drake has no substance....
A lie and you know it.
I know your the biggest Drake fanboy on this site
ItzGrav would be pretty dissapointed to hear that. To be honest, Drake is not even my favorite rapper. But I'll check threads for, and talk about all the artists I like. I do it for Cole, Gucci, Kanye, Lupe and Blu and many more all the time. Only reason I get a perception of a "Fanboy" is because the Drake hate here is so feverish that it's gone beyond common sense. Niggas will just say any ol stupid shit to try and discredit him. Hell, you did in the first sentence.
but please substance and Drake do not go together and as far as lyrical talent he is avg on his best day.
I've been on this site far too long to take anyone who calls such and such "lyrically average" seriously. It's a day to day blanket statement, and a whole other argument in itself. I've seen everyone from Wale, to Biggie, to Kanye to Drake get called lyrically average here. Just quit it.
Fab last 3 or 4 done went at least Gold after his debut went platinum hes heading in that direction.
No.
Loso's way wasn't even close to gold. Real Talk and From Nothing To Something barely squeezed to Gold. Drake is outselling his last three albums.
Also it didnt outsell every hip hop this year...
Peep the edit. But regardless, he outsold WAYNE, doubled Luda's sales, outsold two Trey albums that has had continual singles for the last two years, outsold B.o.B. who had 3 top 10 singles.
And yet, this is underpreforming?
and to me Drake music and fanbase is fickle they dont last long the jump out the fast then fall off....
He's a debut artist, the reason he didn't drop last year was because he was BUILDING a fanbase.
It will happen with Drake when his next album doesnt come close to what his first album did...
You guys said the same thing about Wayne.
And Thank Me Later.
And Nicki.
Don't y'all ever get tired?
and yes the about of dickiriding and Buzz homie got for this glorified Ja Rule like music to not sell 500k first week and to barely reach 1.5 mil in a year is underperforming...
But who has done better other than Em? I'm dying to know. I mean, we can't use context, look at things like how music sales are down 70% this year in general, see just HOW BADLY Drake outsold his peers (Drake went plat in half the time it took for Ross to go gold), examine how his album leaked a full two weeks before it's release and that leak was a trending topic on Twitter? All because he's popular right? Just, GTFO. You can't try to set unrealistic figures to an artist, then try to justify it by some un-measurable factor like "hype". And you can't call a platinum album a flop, seeing as only like 3 rappers went plat LAST YEAR.
Just being with a plaque has already solidified an elite status, success wise.
I cant even fathom grown ass men with any kind of legit struggle relating or like this kid Drakes music....
You can't relate having ambition? Working hard? Wanting a legacy? Wanting to accomplish goals? Wanting to be with a woman?
Well, I can see how you can't identify with the last one, but 4/5 ain't bad. Drake's whole initial appeal was having a relatively common, humble personality combined with ambition and self reflection. It's the whole reason songs like Successful were...... successful.
The thing you and other posters are MISSING is that Drake ISNT DOING ANYTHING NEW he took the lane that was already occupied by someone like Fab and his music with mixing of R&B like signing and rapping is something Ja rule and Nelly sold millions off yet kind fell off...
Read up on the modernist movement in art. It pretty much explains how NOTHING is new in art anymore. You can only strive to be different. And Drake is. Not just for the singing either. He wouldn't have stuck out so much and gotten so much buzz if he wasn't. He has his own sound, and he does it well.
The consistency of success doesnt last and there always someone who comes along does the same kind of music Drake makes etc.
What long lasting rappers with consistent success are following simple formulas? Jay has been dickriding trends and going more and more big bass and electro. Kanye switches it up every album. Em started out as "different cuz I'm white", then went "imma maniac" and now tuned it down for a sort of living legend feel. Wayne went from blood, to maniac rockstar. It's all expression. Drake just has more avenues with the singing and his songwriting.
And honestly, this is why it's hating: Cause you have to bring up 5-10 years from now. Something NOBODY can give concrete proof on. I mean, is it that hard to just give a nigga props? Y'all said the nigga wouldn't drop, wouldn't go gold, or wouldn't go plat, and now you're making negative predictions for the beyond? It's like you niggas just try any ol avenue to try and undercut an artist you don't like, even if you have to make up something. "OH SURE, Em's been killing shit for over a decade, but I bet that nigga won't survive a cancer attack"
