Props to the man at the end of the panel who was less emotional about it.

People like the woman and the black GOP are apart of the problem, they don't think black Americans are an underclass as a result of previous/current govt policy

Umar - not sure what to believe, he reminds me of a hustler pastor

Umar, and folks like him, have spent decades giving the message that your favorite rapper is just now starting to put in their music.

Why is one able to make millions off it, but the other is reduced to a "pimp"? Theyre both giving the same message.

Whose favorite rapper? Hip Hop has always been littered with knowledge for the betterment of our people.

I wasnt trying to imply Hip Hop culture never had knowledge. So I repeat, why does your favorite rapper get props for kicking knowledge, but a fella like Umar doesnt?

Serious question, cause i have no reason to believe yall would of treated X any different. Reflects poorly on the shoe it fits, but id at least hope such a person was consistent with it.

The cache that Umar's name has speaks to the acclaim that his words have garnered. Just because some people don't acknowledge him doesn't mean he's not being acknowledged.

Umar definitely needs to exercise more self-control. His message is on point most of the time but he doesn't respond to negative criticism well. Like, at all. One "liar" and he's ready to go back and forth name calling. I look to Malcolm X, who never stooped to the level of his detractors. His poise alone made racists and uncle Toms look foolish.

What narcissist does??

i tend to dismiss most of what Umar says

but i gotta give him his props. This was easily his best interview iv'e seen

while i "like" his breakfast club interviews, they dont challenge him on anything. Especially Envy, but i wont talk about that too much lol, but at least with this panel, as misinformed or in denial as the panel was, they at least challenged him which allowed him to respond just as quick. No wasted moments or energy.

I'm just making notes of this dude on the show, and what jumps out:

First off - You mean to tell me that guys like Harry Bellafonte, Richard Pryor, Quincy Jones, and Sidney Poiter get no respect because they have non-black wives, even though they broke barriers in the entertainment industry while maintaining their black ancestry? FOH, Umar.

2nd - Him calling dude a coon was petty and childish as a muhfuck. "He called me a liar." Stop acting like a bitch, Umar.

Umar does have a point about white folks not doing much to anything at all about the systematic setup of white privilege.

This dude is hit or miss. He makes great points, but he goes full Hotep too many times for my taste.

why does it matter if hes hit or miss if hes in the game trying to win for us?

this is one of my biggest gripes.

US black people dont need singular leaders but we will attack those who take charge when so many others stand back or stand around.

since we are so diverse...we need people in all areas to be as great as they can be. then you take those people create a group that can speak to everyone.

just because 1 person will never be right 100% and we are not a unit...even tho alot of times on this site it is said but then contradicted. but thats another thing.

mlk was 100

malcolm wasnt 100

dick gregory aint 100 hhmph

no one is...can we stop pointing that out

as if coons and white people wont do that already.

an yes, i woulda called dude a coon too.....how you gonna call a grown man a liar when hes respecting you? chicks and bitch niggas do that shit. niggas might say you lying,,,but "liar" is for bitches.

the man already tense for having to answer for his degrees...thats fukked up.

hes tense to defend his point.

all can be understood and he handled himself good..even calling the guy a coon.

none of yall woulda took that shit in that situation all well and good. stop it

It matters when you claim to be an educator and knowledgable about the shit you're talking about. You can't just be spouting off any ol bullshit under the guise of "I'm doing it for us". Just giving a free pass to say anything under that logic is dumb. People need to be checked when they are wrong. That's what actually helps...not just letting everything slide

We always have people talking about everything Umar Johnson accept his message. I would like for someone anyone to point out what's not sound about his message to Blacks and how by adhering we could not only better the quality of our lives but our communities as well.

People gotta stop falling into the trap of taking peoples words as the gospel because they "speak authoritatively" and with conviction.. that gift for gab shit ... keeps niggas buying... some times you gotta pay attention to more....

He doesn't really have a point with the bold either. There were white abolitionists and civil rights activists that fought and died to end slavery and segregation respectively. You can't say they didn't do anything to combat systemic white privilege unless you believe that being able to own nonwhites or being legally entitled to better everything aren't examples of systemic privilege. He says Tim Wise isn't doing anything to combat systemic white privilege. Wise goes around the country as a white man attempting to explain to other white people what white privilege is and how they all benefit from it. You can't address a problem until you learn to acknowledge a problem. How is him doing that not an example of efforts against systematic white privilege. When white people get up and go out to support BLM or other protests, how are they not doing anything to stand against systematic privilege. If you feel that blacks are treated unfairly by the justice system, then any effort to combat that has to be seen as an effort against that white privilege.

Let's be clear, the white people doing all that are the exception not the average and certainly not the majority. So it's fair to say that in general white America isn't making moves to end that privilege, but to do what Umar did and try discredit the work of every white ally and every black fighter that married a white person is ridiculous. I think it's fair to say that if you are an afrocentrist or 100% committed to the black community, that you should marry a black person, but to say someone isn't for the cause no matter what they've done just because they married outside of their race is stupid. There are people who did more for black people than Umar will ever do that married outside of their race so he doesn't even have the standing to make a statement like that.

Part of what's wrong is his views on what is "effiminizing black males" which I think is a bullshit concept in general...his views on interracial marriage...his refusal to actually prove he has the educational credentials he openly touts...lying about and being called out by Frederick Douglass descendants about him claiming to be related to them and using that to promote himself...theres a few things to take issue with. Niggas get so caught up in "Hes saying fuck the white man" they let his bullshit slide

What he said, very specifically, was that people who marry white will have a difficult time getting respect from him. He didn't say he didn't respect them at all or that their marriage choice completely invalidated any of their work.

Changing his words to argue against him is a straw man. Malcolm X and Farrakhan have echoed similar sentiment decades ago about black activists with white wives and no one can question their efforts.
