People who know the history of HipHop will tell you that in the 90s the majority of Southern HipHop artists were not getting national attention, Ross would have been ahead of his time and been the southern version of Raekwon.

Raekwon compares himself to Rick Ross.

As far as the C.O. Situation is concerned it wouldn't matter because people from the streets and within the industry know the difference between a cop and a C.O., and people that don't know the difference don't count anyway.

lol @ ahead of his timer. The greats from the South at that time stood out and sold.

Cause Ross dont spit like Big thats why. "Big Poppa" wasnt the only song that sold Ready To Die. It was the actual album. Their's a reason Ross hasnt went platinum yet, dude is one dimensional

Bro, I was in the clubs during that time period, trust me, Big Poppa and One more chance and that 112 shit was what sold it down here. Juicy was the first single, but Big Poppa was the one. I used to clown NY rap, but Id be a mf lie if I said i wasnt grinding on some girl when that Big Poppa came on.

wonder y puff cant do that for him now.....first off i really doubt that in 94 anyone doing anything other than bass music coming from florida would be accepted nationally {imo}.....if dude came out in the early 90's he prolly wouldve been affiliated with luke, lol now can u imagine if snoop and dre was also getting at a c.o on dre day lol he wouldve been laffed out of the game

and would they find this information on Smokinggun.com?

or

would have someone emailed them? Cmon man, we had beepers back then and a pocket full of Qters B, it was a different age.

see not true, it did fly, it was called Bad boy. Hate it or love it, take big out and insert Ross, and you still got hits. With Puffy providing production. I for real, no lie, think Ross could do a Big Poppa and it would have sold then.

Cause he brought it up.

I did. they both were meant for certain feelings. See what we arent dealing with is a New York Centric style back then, NY and LA were the epi centers of music then, so those styles dominated. When the computer shrunk the world, Miami and the South didnt have to be force fed music that didnt exactly relate to them, and NY could embrace feel good music.

Did that clear that up, or make more questions?

During that time, rap wasnt forced outside of MC Hammer/Vanilla Ice/G Funk so it wasnt like shit thats on the radio today so no I dont understand from Wu being forced fed.

Were talking about the 90's tho, it was a totally different era. Beats and production wasn't as important as it is now, ross makes better music I'll give him that. But he doesn't use any decent rhyme schemes like rae would. And I'm not sayin rae's that great either but ross just doesn't put the same kinda work in at the studio and that I know.

Fuck Outta Here BAWSE got the delivery, the flow, and the tone that captures people attention, fuck rhyme schemes n all dat corny shyt...it ain't about what u say, but how u say it...

but boss and vanilla ice werent really affiliated. I tried to say that before, but it obviously went over peoples heads. If Ross wasnt with some strong peoples, his ass would have gotten ate today, the mere fact he is still here, and thriving says alot to me, about this mans standing. Thats just logic to me. Maybe Im blind or dumb, but I thought dog was a wrap when that shit came out, few years later, dude is bigger than he ever was.

In the early 90's most of the Souths rappers were regional, it wasn't untill late mid & late 90's that Dungeon Family gave the South nation-wide acclaim for lyricism...of course Scarface was an exception.

NY still dominated the 90s with an iron fist, while Master P. Flooded the market with inferior product that sold units despite it's quality, so yeah it's easy to stand out when it's very little competition in your backyard, and it's easy to sell when you the only D-boys on the block.
