And when the USSR fell, Cuba's economy had a major crisis for most of the 90s that included shit like food shortages. Hell, the only reason Castro's regime survived is because he was way smarter than Kim Jung Il & his daddy and acted quickly to make Cuba self-sufficient agriculturally. North Korea didn't do that and 3 MILLION people starved to death. Cuba had to radically reform its society to be sustainable.

This era in Cuban history is known as the "Special Period". Read up on it sometime.

I don't agree with the bolded because it ignores the geopolitical aspect of WHY CUBA IS MORE SUCCESSFUL. Haiti never received outside support from the United States OR ESPECIALLY, FRANCE, when it comes to infrastructural rebuilding and economic development like the Soviet's gave Cuba.

straight up black African leaders will always have a harder time after fighting for freedom than Galician Spanish (Castro) & Mestizos (Che'). and remember, Fidel Castro is a trained Jesuit so best believe he plugged into the Vatican like all Latin American countries.
