Science and religion cannot coexist in the same intellectual space. Religion requires faith, which is a process of non-thinking, followers must believe without any evidence.

That's not necessarily true.

Whereas, science is a process of analysis, theories are challenged, disproved and improved all the time, this leads to knowledge gaps being filled. They can never mix, the most embarrassing case of an attempt to try and mix science and religion is in the Qur'an. There are theories of the formation of embryos, mountains and the ocean to name a few. The main problem with this is, Muslims claim that the prophet Muhammad got these words "directly from God" but they were clearly all plagiarized.

Having said that, the stories in religious books are good life lessons that should not be taken at face value. They should be read in a similar fashion to Aesop's fables. A good example is the book that Thomas Jefferson wrote "The life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth" which is basically the bible without the imaginary magical powers and pageantry.

Religion does require people to think. The problem is that some people don't want to think when it comes to religion. Some people don't want to consider the truths associated with it. I'm not talking about whether a religion is true compared to others, but whether a religion is true within itself.

It is obvious from this thread that people have a narrow view of what religion is. And some don't actually know what religion is.

There are people who don't subscribe to any theistic school of thought that are extremely religious.

Absolutely not true. Faith is not a process which requires non thinking. It starts with a premise that you don't know yet are tring to know. it is a process of putting into action that which you believe to see if what you believe can be proven true. This is as natural to the human being as breathing. A baby that is put on the breast instinctively knows to pull. It's pulls will be rewarded with milk. The baby does not know because it has never done it before nor has it ever received milk before. This is faith that is instinctive to the human being.

Science also to a degree requires faith this is how discoveries are made. There are people who lead a knowledge based life by their study of creation and learn from it and apply what they learn to their every day life. That is religion. Examples being diet, exercise, mental excercise and habits as well as social constructs. They start with a premise(which may or may not be true) and begin to apply and through trial and error begin to learn and refine what they have learned until they reach a conclusion for their personal lives. This has nothing to do with non-thinking or lack of evidence as you call it.

The only thing embarassing is your obvious lack of knowledge of the Quran and how it has been used by scientists and non scientists alike. Many scientific discoveries were made as a direct result of application of Quranic principles. The process of childbirth described in the Quran is not a theory. That is exactly how it happens. Muhammad did not have the capability to plagiarize because he was illiterate. Sure some precepts were not new and had been in the world before, but certain things were innovations. The leading scientist and mathemeticians during those Middle Ages were Muslims while before they were steeped in ignorance. The Quran made them take on the virtue of learning.

LOL. The two greatest examples in Modern history of the elevation of a mass segment of people have been the Jews and the Arabs. If you do the research you will find that both coincide with their codified scriptures revelation.

First of all, in the research process when you do your literature review, do u not look for many sources? There is no way that u can sit there and say that the religious books have all the answers. So when u have questions, u ask your religious leaders, of course they don't have all the answers either and then it comes down to the generic saying "because that is how God created it". As for breast feeding, all children go through a stage of oral fixation, so basically whether it is a boob or a beer bottle, the child will put it in its mouth, there is no thought process involved. Science doesn't require faith, it is more curiosity that leads to investigation and research. An example of faith would be, I believe that Arsenal is going to win the Champions League next season, they have never done it before and all signs are pointing in the opposite direction but I have the belief that they will, it is my private thoughts, there is not a shred of evidence that could support that belief.

As for the Quran, well, the process of embryo development was described in detail by Galen 4 centuries before the Quran was written. Now I know that religion is second to none when it comes to outlandish claims but there is no way that the prophet Muhammad received those words from God unless he was more than 400 years old. The Quran has barely a paragraph on the development on embryo's, Galen wrote a book on it hmmm This is not the only example of plagiarism in the Quran, there r some verses that write about the oceans that were copied from the work of Herodotus. From a scientific perspective there is no problem with referencing the works of other researchers, but the Quran claims this was the first time that these theories had been brought to the public, why lie?

"But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death." -Proverbs 8:36

Why not love instead of hate today?

I tried to ask yesterday, "why all the hate for christ"....?

Everyone basically thinks it's b.s. And they got life figured out in its self

If you love Christ then follow him like his disciples and his early follower who followed the Holy Father. But some are the Follower of Paul

Blessed are your eyes for they see my brother. May the Lord continue to bless our mouths so that we can continually speak of His love boldly and proudly! In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

I can't "hate" what doesn't exist. But I do like death, so I collect/watch a lot of gore.

I don't think "hate" and "love" are among my emotions anyway.

I think that it is presumptuous to think it is Christ that people hate.

Most people I interact with don't have a problem with him. It is the assholes who purport to follow him that draw their ire.

Hey I got a question..I started reading the bible a few weeks ago and I'm almost done with Genesis. But basically I fully believe there is a God but I'm having an extremely difficult time believing that God walked the Earth in the flesh as Jesus. I also have a hard time believing his mother was a virgin and that Moses parted seas. I really do believe in our creator but I still feel like I'm going to hell because I have doubts about Christianity. So basically what I'm saying is do you guys as Christians think God won't be able to accept me for having doubts and condemn me to eternal hell? Just curious because I can't see God condemning me for believing in Him but not entirely believing Jesus is God.

But to clarify, I do believe Jesus died for our sins and that he performed miracles.
