We got parents beating their kids because they got beat as kids, That's It. Truth is, most parents don't know how to discipline or teach their kids. Truth is, most parents aren't good parents, period. You can try to chalk physically assaulting your kids up as discipline if you want to, but there is ALWAYS a better way to handle things, and that usually starts Long before the beating would become even remotely "necessary."

A kid behaving out of fear of being hit is a failure on the parents part, no matter how you rationalize it. You're not raising a thinking, rationalizing, intelligent young person, you're raising a slave that half of the time only knows to do things "because you said so," or so they don't get hit. That's unproductive, and will either lead to aimless rebellion or empty success attained by blindly following arbitrary goal setting that in no way relate to who they are as a person.

Parents need to grow up and look at the big picture.
