Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon and safety William Moore, in speaking to the media Wednesday, were in agreement about who their favorite prospect in the 2014 NFL Draft, and it’s not who you might guess.
While headlines swirl around players like Jadeveon Clowney, Khalil Mack, Greg Robinson and Jake Matthews, Weatherspoon and Moore are looking at a different spot for the Falcons to target in the draft — that being safety, and their favorite among them being Louisville’s Calvin Pryor.
“That’s gonna be tough because we’re sitting at (No.) 6 right now,” Weatherspoon said. “I had a chance to talk with him (Tuesday) and he’s just wide-eyed, talking about what he’s looking forward to in the NFL. I just told him, continue to work and take care of your name, first and foremost, because right now, during the process, it’s about the talk. I told him to handle his business and he looks like the type of guy, we get on our defense, he can make a lot of plays.”
Pryor is rated as the second-best safety available on many draft guru’s big boards, behind Alabama’s Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Pryor brings a more physical game than Clinton-Dix, however, and that’s what stands out to both Weatherspoon and Moore.
“I saw Calvin (Tuesday) and walked by him and said, ‘I like your game,’ and he said, ‘I like yours, too. I look forward to working with you’ ” Moore said. “It’s a crazy process. I told him the same thing — I look forward to working with him. But, the process, no one knows. That’s what they do upstairs. That’s way out of our league, but I really like his game. He seems like a really confident guy. I actually sat down to watch some of his highlights and that’s one of my guys. If I had to pick, I’d pick him.”
