lol @ the president having "a publicist". The Whitehouse has an entire fucking communications department, though I admit Gibbs is kind of wack.

But maybe he should hire you. This novel and new approach of checking polls and basing your public statements on what those polls say will change politics forever!

LOL

I was just joking. And I don't see how it would change politics forever when everybody already does it. Except Obama, so it seems. I think there is a Republican disguised as a Democrat in Obama's communication department

Obama is already walking on eggshells. They are looking for him to fuck up. If he wants a 2nd term he needs to check the polls first. Not that it would guarantee another term but he needs to realize that when it comes to doing what is right versus doing what is expedient, you do what is expedient so it won't endanger the election of others in his party or upset people too much

political correctness 101

“I was not commenting, and I will not comment, on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there, I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding. That’s what our country is about.” -Obama

Is he seriously asking us to believe that he randomly made a comment on the right to build mosques in this country? the sad thing is, obama is right on this. the muslims have a right to build a mosque anywhere they want. he is too afraid of polls and he caved in again, its embarrassing. whatever poster said "part time spine" was right.

for crying out loud there are already 2 mosques 4 and 12 blocks away from ground zero! should we tear those ones down? how far away from ground zero is it acceptable for these people? 10 miles? 20 miles? thats the funny thing about principles, if we believe in freedom of religion, then it applies everywhere, not just where it makes people comfortable. and the analogies about catholic churches in iran, monuments to atomic bombs in hiroshima, or any other ones are complete nonsense. none of those other countries have a constitution like we do here. so why would anyone expect to see religious freedom there?

this is a terrible way to run a country, especially if you want to take principled stands on anything

I agree

creationism is also the number one viewpoint held by Americans last I checked and the actual explanation is last. Maybe there is something to be said for the assertion that whatever Americans primarily support is wrong and that whatever they support least is right

the check the polls first was tongue in cheek

Fortunately, widespread rejection of Darwinism does not inhibit natural selection from occurring. Unfortunately, the ability to reproduce is essential in natural selection, and these people don't believe in condoms.

NYDN poll results as of now.

Is opposition to the building of a mosque near Ground Zero intolerant?

Yes, itâ??s pure religious bigotry against Muslims. 72%

No, you can be against because it dishonors victims of Sept. 11. 23%

Maybe, but the sensitive thing to do is to move it further from the WTC site. 6%

Churches are banned in Saudi Arabia. In fact, it is illegal to practice anything outside of Islam in Saudi Arabia. Only Islam. Apostasy is punishable by death. The funding for the Cordoba mosque is coming from a Saudi. The Imam who is the face of the project is from Kuwait. Here's my thing, though, the First Amendment of the Constitution does guarantee the freedom of religious exercise, and last I checked.. this is America, a capitalist nation. In a capitalist country, any and everything is for sale ( including your soul, shame, and dignity ) and money talks. Don't like capitalism? ..Well, there's always socialism? :) Capitalism + U.S. Constitution = Cordoba Mosque is a GO. Yeah, feelings may be hurt, but this is business my friend. That's the way the cookie crumbles. You can't uphold and then disregard the U.S. Constitution like an on and off switch just because the principles this nation was founded on don't cater to your precious feelings all the time. The mosque is a go. Get over it. If they couldn't build the mosque on the property they purchased ( regardless of the location ), this wouldn't be America as we have come to know it and you definitely couldn't criticize some of the public figures the way some of you all do without harsh consequences.

Can't? We've done it throughout most of American history. You mean we shouldn't, not we can't.
