Lol I was thinking the same shit for a underground 1990s westcoast thread

Gotta show love to Tim Smooth underrated as fuck dude played a huge part in Mystikal gettin out there

dude was lyrical, thought provoking and entertaining RIP to Tim Smooth til this day idk why he wasnt a bigger star

Black Menace was dope as fuck this album Drama Time goes in these were prolly my favorite cuts on here

On a side note Big Boy records had these niggaz, Fiend, G Slimm, Mystikal and Tim Smooth at the same ime its crazy that label failed cuz they were talented as hell

This was when the south,up north and the west coast was puttin on....golden era of almost everything was back in the 90s...best decade ever.

Magnolia Slim (known by some as Soulja Slim)

Dog Ass Hoes

Powda Bag

How Ya Figga

Lil Bit

You Got It

I've been lookin for Magnolia Slim's Dark Side and Soulja 4 Lyfe tapes forever.

All them boys (Slim, Mystikal, Serv, Prime Suspects) got their start on KLC's Parkway Pumpin Records.

I know it's long but peep this interview. So many jewels in this shit.

@tharealest561 yo homie. I just checked my folders and I have Magnolia Slim's Dark Side. Hype Enough Records Compilation. Soulja 4 Lyfe from Parkway Pumpin. If you really want those let me know. Ask @Michael_Malice I hooked him with some heat last night. PM me if you're interested.

@BlackAX410 appreciate those Big Boy Records drops. I never understood why Big Boy was never bigger than what they were. Check the roster they had. G-Slimm (rip). Mystikal. Fiend. Black Menace. Tim Smooth (rip). Sporty T (rip). Ghetto Twinz. Partners N Crime. Insane. Rated X. And they had their own in house producer, Leroy "Precise" Edwards.

According to mystikal they mismanaged money which is why i think G slimm was gonna leave and head to relativity records. They had the best lyricist on their label too which is a shame

I can tell you a story about this record. Like the T/S said these guys were from Queens. The song was marginally successful in New York but it was a huge success down South. The T/S even said himself that this song got played at parties in New Orleans.

But the guys who made the record didn't know that the song was a hit in the South so they broke up and never made another song. It wasn't until many years later that they realized this song was HUGE down south.

To this day the Drag Rap 12" single goes for $50.

@tharealest561 man that was a dope drop. Phat Phat N All That was the show to watch down here that showed nothing but love to artists from the boot. Wild Wayne was instrumental into hitting the masses with that show and on Q93 radio station.

Now this drop right here is probably one of my most favorite albums to come out of New Orleans. UNLV's Uptown 4 Life album. Mannie Fresh was at the top of his game on this album and has aged pretty damn well to say it came out in 1996 it still sounds fresh. This album also had each group member with its own solo song as well. Oh and it sold over 200,000 copies. Pretty damn good for someone local/regional. You couldn't go anywhere and not here this album it was everywhere. Mainly because of Drag Em N Tha River. Besides the lyrics I also want you to check out the production from Mannie. People wonder why I put him on a pedestal and why I think he should get mentioned with the greats. This album is one the reasons why. Check out a few favorites off the album.

Uptown 4 Life

Drag Em N Tha River (Mystikal Diss)

Pocket Full of Furl feat. B.G. (niggas was really on dope. smh at B.G.'s verse when he said 15, a strung out dope fiend)

211-187

Chill & Hussle (great fucking song from the lyrics to the track)

Mannie Fresh Mix (like I mentioned earlier, he used to this a lot on UNLV's albums)

Rape U 4 Your Life (the beat man god damn)

Playa Hate'n

Jazzy Bitch (peep how Mannie flipped that sample)

Black Connection 226 (dope posse track with UNLV, Kilo G (rip), B.G. and Ms. Tee)

That playa hate'n and 211 187 beat are some of his best dude had so many different sounds on this project. Mannie was in his prime from 96-99 IMO dude had outrageous range with the beats back then

Great thread! Grew up about an hour from NO on the MS gulf coast...all these joints got heavy play. They used to play some of these songs on 94.5, but if we were lucky and had the radio antenna positioned just right lol, we'd get those NO stations. Grew up on all this

Post some tracks you grew up on homie

MC Thick - Marrero

This track was huge on the Westbank (across the river from New Orleans). Everybody was playing this when it came out. If you from the Westbank specifically then this song is engraved in your mind. Niggas know this by heart. This track came out in 1991 or 1993 I think. Here is the video he did for the song. Sadly like a lot of rappers from this area he was killed in 1996.

Dog House Posse was a group from the Westbank specifically out of a town called Harvey (that's where I grew up). They dropped this album called Dope Gets No Heavier off of Mobo Joe Records. This album was all the way street.

Knuckle Up Nigga (saw too many fights off this song)

Gangster Fide Ass Nigga

Straight Up Villian

Dope Is Getting Heavier

Rub And Kill

Street Of The Westbank

Bruh
