I think the problem is that while gang violence and black on black crime are things that should be addressed..why must they always be addressed in the same conversation as unequal protection under the law?

Whenever you put the two issues together it's like you're justifying one with the other. If the matter at hand is gang violence then let it be gang violence. If the matter at hand is the fucked up justice system then let it be that. You cloudy shit when you merge the issues like that because they have nothing to do with each other.

Nah, its more like you are damning them both.

Only the hypocrites are hurt by a true comparison. The mirror's truth hurts.

Killing an unarmed Black Man and being set free after racially profiling them isn't a true comparison when compared to gang violence. It's not even close. To attempt to compare them is appalling.

When the subject is how the justice system treats both situations, id agree.

When the subject is how both entities value a black life, i would say there is a definite comparison.

Because whether the guy is guilty or innocent by court of law that black life is gone.

The value of Black life as perceived by both entities cannot be compared either. In one case the value of Black life is measured by skin color and a history of racism, in another the value of Black life is largely measured by survival and years of socialization.

Yes a life is taken. However, the circumstances aren't remotely close and clouding the issue doesn't help.

It's utterly ridiculous and outright condescending to imply that a gangbanger who may or may not have taken a life is a hypocrite if they choose to mourn, or weep over the deaths of unarmed innocent Blackmen walking the streets. As I said, earlier such an even might turn a brother\sister away from a life ignorance.

Bruh u speaking to deaf ears...

Kendrick once again proves that he is not a street dude...some street dudes had to rob and kill for survival being brought up in unfavorable circumstances

He should stop speaking on street shit looking on the outside in..every black person is not your friend

There are demons in every race..some people are warriors by nature, therefore,if their energy isn't channeled they will self destruct themselves and their own kind...the killing of innocent black people isn't justified just because blacks may have internal conflicts within their own race..

Whites also have internal conflicts within their race but they just put the spotlight on black peoples problems to seem superior

Fuck that last line.

The song is cool but Trayvon Martin and Black on Black crime is the worst analogy. COON SHIT

And for the nigga that posted that Pac line And they say it's the white man I should fear/ But It's my own kind doing all the killing here. I never like that line either and Pac is my 2nd favorite rapper

I like the song though

I wouldn't say its coon shit.. Just misdirected...you can tell Kendrick wants to say something with substance but he doesn't have all the knowledge to adequately speak on these matters...he needs to study more before he attempts to kick knowledge

Shits pathetic...

Obviously went over heads...

Simply put...the message is:

Why don't black people come together and make national/international noise about black on black murder like they did in Trayvon or the Fergusion case?

Pointing this out does not make Kendrick a coon.

Statistically right now, can someone tell me if more black men in America are dying right now at the hands of white men than black on black crime?

Nah I'm a take it there and say it is most definitely coon shit homie. It's the exact same shit every Uncle Tom in the media always throws out as an argument for why we shouldn't be outraged when crackas kill Black males and get no punishment for it.

I'm not saying one of my favorite artists is a coon, I'm saying that way of thinking is coon shit. Trying to divert and deflect attention away from the real problem of white supremacy by holding a mirror up to Black folks and saying we're more of a problem to ourselves is definitely coon shit in my eyes.

Idk why niggas always leave out the following line of that Pac quote "I cant lie aint no love for the other side, jealousy inside , make em wish I died"

But the Pac qoute most fitting for this thread is "There's 10 rules to the game but I'll share with you two/ Know, niggas gonna hate u for whatever u do"

Actually you are exposing yourself. Blacks were doing community outreach, marching and protesting long before Trayvon or Mike Brown. Do your homework. You and others like you are ignorant of these events and organizations.

So, it's easy for Kendrick to come along and preach to the ignorant.

I think you are actually in over your head bruh.

It's unfortunate that you are to ignorant to value open discussion and differing opinions.

Haven't seen anything in the news recently about people marching in protest about the daily murders occurring in....off the top, Chicago...

Link me to a recent news article. I'm happy to be wrong....I hope I am.

But that's the message I got from the song.

Yeah but its the delivery..he needs to stop doing that Lupe condescending shit...pac was successful in unifying people because he spoke to their heart and pain in a way they didn't feel they were being talked down to...

And yeah black on black crime happens but you MUST address the factors that created black on black crime..(slavery,poverty, etc)

You can't just point the finger

That's what I'm saying...these niggas have a groupie gene thinking this nigga Kendrick Lamar is some sort of savior..gtfoh with that bullshit..

The track is fire but you're highly mistaken if you think lamar is a true activist..

Mostly nerds follow him...he doesn't have the streets...to start a true revolution you need to capture both elements...

He's a great emcee..just leave at that

I don't know. These new nig nogs think any rapper that rhymes like they just smoke a blunt while having a cold is great. There is so much singy songy bullshit out there anything with a hint of rasp sounds hardcore.

The Blackman in america has been watered down genetically therefore the natural tone and rhythms of black people have changed from the natural tones of previous generations..people dont like hearing that type of shit but its truth...

That being said Kendrick has enough natural rasp and melanin magic to ride beats impeccably and create good tracks..

Is he the next pac? No

Big? No

Nas? Hell no

Those emcees were from a golden era where black people generally still maintained a sense of racial pride and shunned gentrification pushed on them by outside forces

You can see the traces of that greatness in Kendrick but its not as potent as a "fight the power"

Kendrick is a reflection of today's internet driven society...where people passively speak against the injustices of society from behind their computers..

I give Cole more credit for actually getting out there in the trenches despite of him also being a generally passive speaker on these type of matters..

These new niggas like to play it safe..

Go listen to ice cube death certificate album..cube did not give two fucks about speaking out against the enemy..his album was the soundtrack to the la riots

again, stop using words if you don't know what they mean
http://i.word.com/idictionary/gentrification

Nigga u love trying to pick apart my message...just like a FBI agent...and no I didn't misuse that word..people from that era did shun white rich people coming in and restructuring what they felt were their neighborhoods..

It's the devils language anyways..so whether you saying blood clot or gentrification you still speaking the cacasu language so stfu and pay attention to the message fool...

gentrification has one meaning and you are using it wrong

Off the top my head I know Derek Rose, Common and Isiah Thomas have programs that do outreach in Chicago that are aimed at curbing violence in Chicago.

Check out the interrupters on Netflix. It's going on.

I don't like when I hear people say Blacks aint doing shit. That's crazy to me. Check Jasiri X out in Pittsburgh. Basheer Jones in Cleveland. I am just tossing names off top. Family it's out there. Believe me.

Wasnt talkin bout you @trilla , was talkin about niggas in general who quote that bar.

@kwan , Ive already stated my opinion on the issue last night when the debate initially started. No need to repeat myself. Ill let yall debate it out.

Song is fucking dope simply for the fact it's sparked such a healthy debate.

Personally I don't think it warrants calling dude a coon...

Yall love to throw that word around so easily.

Yet Kanye dropped New Slaves and it was some profound shit...yet his lifestyle and mindset tell a coon story.

you the same nigga talking about Kendrick was talking about himself the whole song...

You can tell your pineal gland is calcified...you missed the entire point of the message to try to be a grammar nazi

One meaning according to who? The white man?

People cannot shun gentrification?

This is what happens when stupid people try to enter intellectual conversations

Stfu

In his mind he may feel what he's doing is right

Either way, he needs to wake up because he can be used as a puppet to manipulate his own people

Quoted and goated.

I never said Blacks wasn't doing shit. And I am an outsider looking in, so forgive my ignorance.

But during TM and Ferguison cases, I switched on my tv and saw black people come together and unite for what we believed in.

The point I got from Kendrick is that same outcry is not so conspicuous when dealing with black on black crime....coupled with the fact that white people don't give a fuck if we kill each other. So if we don't stop it, when will it end?
