Nas "One Mic": What's your final thought of this song?

"Jesus died aged 33, that's thirty three shots from twin glocks that's sixteen a piece, that's thirty two, which means, one of my guns was holding seventeen, twenty seven hit your crew, six went in to you..."

Don't know about greatest song of all time, but forever one of my favourite bars.

Bitches left me cause they thought I was finished

Should've knew she wasn't true,

she came to me when her man caught a sentence.

Diamonds were blinding, I'll never make the same mistake

Moving with a change of pace, lighter load

So now the King is straight.

Stop sullying this thread with that shit. She bobs white dick. Meh. Hoes do that every day on camera, B.

Anywho, between the lyricism, and his overall tone in where it actually crescendos to a hyper point in each verse has a quality to it that is different with the rest of Nas's work. He reverses this on the 3rd verse, which further speaks to the mastery of his craft. That's what makes it Top 3 to me. Not a lot of songs Nas puts out have an effect in how he flows with the track AND still maintains his mastery of lyrics.

I agree not a top 5 nas joint but ya'll feel testify was better ? There's joints on nastradomas that are better

This pretty much. I think this song is a contender for greatest song of all time. Has another mainstream rapper ever made anything like this?

I like testify, not on one mic level, but project roach? Short and to the point is not a good enough explanation, not even on the same echelon as one mic, Nas as a prison cell>>>Nas as a roach, and I understand the meaning behind it but that doesn't make it a good song

Not a big fan of one Mic. I felt ppl just wanted nas to be in the spot so bad post ether that they hyped sub par shit.

Song is ok but nas has much better.

I get the message: One mic, the power of a voice and the revolution like theme, but that record just never really hit me compared to songs like Testify, Nigger, Mandingo, I gave you power, Project Roach, etc.

I just dont get the hype still after all these years lol.

You saying its not on your Nas greatest hits album?

Its on mine

I feel like its a pressured public vote to say it has to be. Personally, no its not for me. Its a really good song, but not great.

I would really like to hear what makes it so great. Yes im aware and read the lyrics. Yes i know the GOAT Phil Collins is sampled. And Yes i know he is speaking on "my voice is power" type shit but still i dont get what makes it so epic.

IMO

Project Roach>>One Mic.

Its shorter and hits harder. IMO

Wtf are u talkin about? Lol what public pressure? i dont even hear shyt said about One Mic as compared to say NY State of Mind or I Gave you Power, irl or online

One Mic is brilliant, i mean... its HARD to debate opinion but first and foremost how can you even compare Nas 2002 lyrics, during his resurgence when arguably he reached his zenith, vs him a few years ago

Nas 2002 lyrically>>>>Nas 2008. And thats not shyttin on him in 08 but just like sports, nggas got primes and that was his, that was Nas perfected. That whole post Takeover moment

'Nggas throwin dirt on my name'. That shyt gave me chills,bc you could FEEL the back against the wall all or nothin pressure in almost all of them songs. You compare that to project roach? Lol Good song, but bruh...

Swellin my melon cause none of these niggaz real

Heard he was, tellin police, how can a kingpin squeal?

This is crazy, I'm on the right track I'm finally found

You need some soul searchin, the time is now

They way he switched it up n started high then slowed it all the way down for that last verse, he said that shyt damn near at a whisper. Goodness. No. Just, no. What are we even talkin about right now?? Lls /rant
