Smh@ y'all taking what KRS said in Classic so seriously. Anyone who spits is considered an MC. They may not necessarily be a good one, but an MC nevertheless. Just like one may only rap, but they're still participating in the hip-hop culture

I will put it like this:

An MC to me, is a lyrical poet on the microphone basically. Nothing more, nothing less. Nas, Common(from 1994-2007, and BET awards cipher lol), Mos Def, Jay Electronica, Rakim, KRS One, Big Daddy Kane, Outkast, Dead Prez.... these are MCs. People who spit with purpose

A rapper? To me would be Wayne, 50, Ross, Jeezy.... nothing wrong with what they spit, the lyrics just hold a lot of weight to me. I still listen to rappers here and there and MCs here and there.

However, this list is pure comedy

Just to add on...what seperates an MC from a rapper is their willingness to be different and distinguish themselves from everyone (as far as voice, style, delivery, etc. An MC is always raising the bar when it comes creativity, subject matter and not willing to limit themselves to just one category/lane as you see most commercial rappers.

Yeah, to me a lyrical poet embodies all of those qualities already lol. I think as an artist myself, I can write lyrics for any genre of music, make beats for any genre(I have), and I take the craft of writing lyrics very seriously as well. So that's prolly why I grativate towards MCs or lyrical artists.

Dj and True God you guys are talking about conscious RAPPERS. Rappers that spit with a purpose AS YOU SAY are conscious RAPPERS. A rapper is an MC point blank. There are varying kinds of MCs. Good MCs, Bad MCs, MCs that spit gangsta shit, and MCs that spit about social conditions. They all rap do they not? This would make them all rappers. Rappers =MCs

Nicki Garbage came in at #6 and good. I dont care how popular she is right now slash I dont care how wack MTV is, she doesnt belong in any top 5. I thought she was definitely gonna be top 3 in this shit but if they made 1 decent decision, it was this one.

I'm not a fan of Nicki Minaj at all, but at least with her, I can see why some people like her (mainly 12 year old girls). I just find her "voice" annoying as hell, but at least the majority of her lyrics (the ones I've heard anyway) rhyme. That's more than anyone can say about Wacka Flocka. I honestly do not personally know one person that listens to that fag. If they do, they keep that shit on the extreme down low. I think the only reason that "expert panel" chose him for their "prestigious" list was to make themselves look young or at least in touch with what the youth are listening to. Most of those fools are in their late 30's / early 40's and probably don't want to be accused of only picking rappers that have been around for a minute. I really doubt anyone who's worked in the industry as long as some of those cats actually believes Wacka Flocka or Nicki Minaj should be on any list before Jay-Z, Eminem, Bun B, Big Boi, etc. And I understand that if they did that everybody would be screaming how lame and predictable that list was. For once, I'd like to see one of these panels realize that they can't please everyone and just give their honest opinions. In that situation, I might not agree with their opinions, but at least then I could respect the process. For the first time in quite a few years, I actually felt like 2010 was a good year for rising talent in rap music. I think artists like Curren$y, Yelawolf, & Big K.R.I.T. shit on fakes like Wacka Flocka everytime they touch the mic. They were plenty of good albums from established artists that have been slept-on like Bun B, Devin the Dude, Paul Wall, Brotha Lynch Hung, Tech N9ne, Scarface (Dopeman Music mixtape), Big Boi, Pastor Troy, Z-Ro, Juvenile, Yukmouth, etc. I'm just curious as to who is actually buying Wacka Flocka albums, because I'm just not seein it.

False. Rappers are limited with they're able to do, MCs go beyond what a just a plain ole rapper is capable of.
