but the plot is about a confused man going his whole life not knowing how to come out without being judged by anyone hence the last scene of the movie

Nah. Thats the story the movie wanted to tell, but failed to.

The story it actually told was about a reclusive loner, who just so happened to be latently homo, whose abusive childhood pushed him into a life of crime and forced him to adopt an identity instead of ever developing one of his own.

Or, at its core--

I thought the film was about a young boy growing up in the hood with no father & a mother on drugs.

This.

The ONLY difference between this movie and your run-of-the-mill hood movie, is that this nigga was gay.

And trust that this is the only reason white people are giving it love, cause it wasnt that tight.

Dope soundtrack tho.

Watched it last night and I feel is overrated but it's a pretty good movie

Marshala getting a nom is debatable just from the lack of screen time but he did excellent in such a short amount of time

Hes up for supporting actor not lead.

If u look at nominees for supporting roles they are often even smaller roles than he had.

Michelle Williams in Manchester By the Sea literally has like 1 scene with lines in that movie and is up for supporting actress.

Naomie Harris is up for supporting actress as the mother in this and i feel like Marshala had the same or maybe more screen time than her.

It's not pushing an agenda, it's based on a real life experience. It was real, it was raw and I thought it was a great movie.

Definitely Oscar material.

I wish Mahershala Ali would have had a little more screen time.

Damn good movie and all round great performances . Black male masculinity and sexuality is handled subtly and very well in this movie. How you are raised , environment and lack of good parenting to understand your surroundings matters.

Naomi Harris , Marheshela Ali and the those 3 actors killed it.
