basically and they have nominated this movie for best movie. come on man the best thing about the movie is his mama and how she redeemed herself at the end. The main character probably had 20 lines in the whole movie. Its agenda pushing point blank

I thought the film was about a young boy growing up in the hood with no father & a mother on drugs. Meanwhile finding a father figure in the man who happens to sell the same drugs his mother is on.

Fast forward a few years and he finds himself dealing with the loss of that father figure while dealing with being an outkast. And mentally & physically abused by everyone including his mother.

Fast forward a few more years and he transforms himself into the dope dealer father figure who treated him well as a child while his mother is finally getting clean.

But he is gay... so i guess we can just boil it down to being a "homo story"

It's more about how he defines himself as a man without role models. When he grew up he acted exactly like Juan because that's the only adult male he was around. Yes he was gay but that wasn't what the whole movie was about.

This movie wouldn't be getting any "critical acclaim" without the gay angle.

It'd just be looked at as another "hood movie."

Probably go straight to dvd or BET in 2-3 months.
